Well, I may have to retract my earlier statement! I did some A/B with my Captor X and Hot Plate…and you’re right, the THD does change the amp’s natural character at higher volumes. The Captor X’s attenuator function sounds GREAT with any amp I use thru it. As limited as the attenuator feature...

Thanks Carl, I appreciate the information! And YES, very clean work for sure! I haven’t checked the bias on these KT88’s yet…do the bias resistors appear stock? I’m quite sure all these newer 1987X’s come loaded with EL34’s…. Thanks Bryan

It’s a great amp! I’ve been playing it non stop since Sunday! It’s got that early AC/DC punch and sizzle! I’m still pleasantly surprised with this amp…but curious about the choice for KT88’s. I’d like to chat with Carl (Fusionbear) to see if he remembers this amp and what he was going for.

I just bought (2) brand new Vintage 30’s from Avatar speakers and they are the best vintage 30’s I’ve heard. They just seem more balanced and no frequency spikes at all. I don’t know what’s changed, but I’m digging them!

NFB is 100k on the 8ohm tap. Bright cap is 500pf. The amp “looks” stock inside…Carl is an artist for sure!

I like “punchier & stiffer”…. Although I would like to have a little more “gain” from the amp.

Absurd…ha! You must like darker tones with reduced highs. With my stock (4-hole) Marshall’s, the Ironman reduced the high end too much and took away from the amp’s original tone(s). The PS100 also changed the tone…so much that I couldn’t justify keeping it. The Hot Plate is more transparent...
