    Quad Cortex in 2024?

I run a QC but currently using it for amps only. It needs more midi in commands to properly switch fx on and off rather than toggle them. Without that functionality implemented, it’s difficult to use it how I want.

    Best Boost Pedal

The SD1 or similar derivatives are what I use. I’ve never gelled with a TS.

Naylor / Naked / Budda .... anything else?

The Budda and Naylor preamps are very very similar and both had a lot of Friedman input to them. The SD30 is a dark amp. The SD45 is darker than a Marshall but not dark per-say. Never run the SD80 but I’m told it’s a beast! The Rockett Tim Pierce is based on the Naylor60.

    Marshall AFD 100

I had the AFD 100 for a short period of time and really really wanted to love it. I didn’t bond with it at all. It’s absolutely a single channel head with options. The Vintage Moden is too, but found it way more useful. Had I had something like an underlined or Oscillator Siren, I’d have kept...

I am an asshole (SD-1 content)

I can’t find the SuperDrive on the griffin site, only the screaming ts.

Update on noise gate, effects loop 5150-III

I’m sure the tech will fix it. It sounds like a dodgy FX loop. If it still persists, try plugging the guitar directly into the FX return and that could highlight a power tube issue. If not, it could be a defective cable.

    Load Box vs EVH

Lots of people keep saying the Suhr is the better RL. I had the Suhr RLIR and Two-Notes captor X at the same time, with the same IR’s and preferred the Two Notes. The difference wasn’t massive but preferred it for my use.

New GNR : what you all think

Albums were the way previously and they were a journey. Not every track was a single and didn’t need to be as it set the tone for the rest of the tracks. Releasing songs as a single is no guarantee of success.

New GNR : what you all think

I fully expect bands to evolve but can’t help think the reunion was subject to re-recording the old album. It would have been better with cut back keys and forward guitars… and better vocals. No wonder Slash decided to continue with Myles Kennedy.

Sammy, Joe, Mike and Jason play Van Halen on Howard Stern's show

That’s the point about doing his own style on covers. In VH that’s to be expected. The issue I have is, if this is about VH then people go to hear VH, not a tribute act. Even a non official tribute act probably gets closer. Fully agree Satch looked super nervous and about to shit his pants, if...

    Brand prejudices

Marshall. They make amps that do one thing well and in recent years (since 00’s?) have never made the amp everyone knows they could and should.

Pete Thorn would have done a killer job, too

    "Hot rodded" PAF recommendations

For hot rodded PAF’s those selected have quite a variation between them. Some are potted other aren’t. I’ve been using a WCR Goodwood bridge, Crossroads neck set for around 8 years and they’re fantastic. I have Wolfetone Legends and Dr Vintage sets so Wolfe won’t go far wrong although you’ll...

    Boutique SD-1?

The MXR Custom Modified Overdrive gets close. It needs some tweaking to get there.

1969 Marshall Plexi vs. 1978 MKII 50W Metalpanel

That 69 😲 I’d forgotten how much I loved that style of amp. The 78 sounded quite thin by comparison. I don’t know if it’s the natural EQ or the mixing process but the 69 sat way better in the mix and didn’t get in the way of the vocals.

    Huge gain difference between my 5150-III EL34 S amp and 5150-III 6L6

The voicing and gain of the 5150III 50w 6L6 is exactly what makes it great for covers bands as it covers so much ground between the three channels - and the clean can be spanky!

Anyone running a Bogner Blue Pedal into the clean channel as their crunch tone?

Have you tried the trim pot on the back to shape where the mids sit?

    EVH 5150 III 50W and IR's

The Two-Notes EVH 4x12 with EVH speakers is available for download (not the Peavey which comes stock) and sounds really good. I use this to send to the FOH for gigs. Celestion, Own Hammer and York Audio also provided great versions of the cab.

Anyone running a Bogner Blue Pedal into the clean channel as their crunch tone?

I use the Bogner blue mini into the green channel of the 5150 III 50w for plexi/jcm800 tones which it does fantastically. It’s like another channel rather than a pedal for sure.
