The first problem sounds like a dirty pot (nob). Evolving to an initialization problem is possible but uncommon. If you get a new CABM then you could try cleaning the pot and see if you can revive the old one since there is nothing to lose at that point. They're on sale now for US $249 from $299...

It appears to just take the signal off the amp <>speaker path so I think if that signal was amp <> resistive load it probably wouldn't be as good as amp <> reactive load like you pointed out earlier.

It's a good question and sure would be a lot cheaper to stick a resistive load after the CABM+ for silent play. The reactive loads of the last 10 years are so much better than the resistive loads prior.

The amp and load interact with or without the CABM+ between them. So putting the CABM+ between them means the the signal the CABM+ sees is the amp <-> resistive load interaction. I think that would be different than connected to a reactive load.

That's a good question! My opinion is it does matter because the amp will react different on the resistive load so what the CABM+ picks up from that signal will be different.

AI = Audio Interface Cab M gives you options without using your amp. There's overlap in the features between the two units. You might like the sound of the new one better or the old one so there's that. If the main goal is to simplify then Captor X will do fine. Keeping the Cab M just gives you...

I think I would go with Cab M and Captor X. Lot's of flexibility there. guitar > effects > Cab M > AI guitar > effects > amp > Cab M > FRFR guitar > effects > amp > Cab M > Captor X > AI (with/without FRFR) guitar > effects > amp > Captor X > AI

Interference from some other USB device perhaps?

If you bought from Sweetwater I would contact them and discuss options. They double some manufacture warranties. I would also open a case with Two Notes on their web and likewise discuss options. My Suhr RL/IR has a hum when connected to my old Peavey amp but not to any other I own so I think...
