Shout out to Shipnerd for good shipping rates

I'm sending out one of my amps for revision updates. I've used PirateShip several times before and they always had good rates. For some reason the site was having issues authorizing payment. Since others here have recommended them, I decided to try Shipnerd for the first time. It was a nice...

    Hilbish/Matamp GT120 Transformer question.

I’m not sure if I'm reading/comparing these transformer specs correctly or it the I got will not work on the Hilbish Matamp GT120 clone. I asked Hilbish which transformer for recommendations and his response was “the Mercury one is fine”. @ClintN667 recommended one from Heyboer since he was...

What is your favorite high powered speaker that's 100 watts or more?

I only have experience with a couple of 100+ watt speakers; just G12K100 and Weber Grey & Silver wolfs. I’ve looked at Redbacks a bit and peered at the Weber Black Shuck a time or two, but never took the plunge on either. Wondering what everyone’s favorite high powered speaker is to give me a...

Bass peoples, anyone have experiences Phil Jones cabs?

I've been looking at the Phil Jones cabs a little more recently; mostly the C8 Compact 8x5. They look very different from the more typical bass cabs, but still seem to bring the thump. I'm mainly wondering how they handle overdriven, fuzz, and distorted bass tones. The 5 inch drivers seem...

    NBAD: Ashen Miley

I just got an email that the Ashen Miley bass amp I ordered back in January is complete and will be shipping soon. I took a slight gamble on this one only hearing a couple of clips and not knowing much about Ashen in general. As a company/builder everything has been on the up and up. As far...

What attenuator(s) are you using for your NMV amps these days?

    Question is in the title.

Am I bored with amps or reaching the end of my tone journey?

It's not that I’m so much bored with amps, just that there hasn’t been a whole lot of new stuff that really grabs and holds my attention. Admittedly other amps would have really big shoes to fill with what’s already in my stable and in my eyes not a lot is up to the challenge. I do still want a...

    Tube amps for the win

Even the modeling guys can't deny there's something about tube amps that make them better (or at least having one on hand).

A little fun. What amps and cabs would you get?

A fun little hypothetical for the weekend. Money is no object and everything is readily available. You also don't have to worry about weight, you have people for that. You get to pick 6 amps and 2 cabs. The cabs can be any configuration and loaded with any speakers you want. The catch is 3...

Anyone buy a shed from one of the box stores?

I’m going to be purchasing a shed of some sort soon to use as my workshop. I’m not planning on running electricity to it, but may eventually set it up for solar. It’ll have to go on the ground/leveling blocks as well; no slab. Due to limited access to the area I’ll need something that can be put...

Anyone order from Big River Hardware?

They seem to have some okay prices for NOS tubes. I haven't heard of them before and was wondering if they're a reputable source. https://bigriverhardware.com/

Bare essentials of a pedal board

I've never been much of a pedal user, but I'm thinking of putting together a small board to mess around with. In addition to a tuner pedal, I'm thinking 3-5 more pedals max. One of those spots would be taken by my Chiron. I don't really know what else would be worthwhile. Whatever may go on...

Mod 102 amp; Is the preamp clipping because of too high of signal going through?

This is concerning the MOD102+ amp I just completed. The amp is a fairly simple circuit based on a Fender Champ. It's Class A EL84 power tube and rated for about 8 watts. Controls are Bass, Treble & Volume with a mid boost, bright, and gain boost functions. The amp came with a JJ 12AX7...

What are the hot guitars these days?

The last fresh off the factory line guitar I bought was back in 1995 when I got my first Ibanez Iceman. Everything else since then has been something that's 10 or more years old, a fankenparts guitar, or something I built myself. Put it this way; the last time I really looked at new guitars...

Can a cab's impedance be altered...

by adding an appropriate resistor across the output jack or something along those lines? I ask because I'm wanting a specific bass cab. It only comes in 8 ohms and I need 4 ohms. Replacing the speakers isn't an option and something like a Z-matcher isn't rated for the higher wattage.

    6N2P tube as 12AX7 alternative?

I have an Ashen Miley bass amp being made and it uses 6N6P for power tubes and 6N2P for the preamp. Not knowing much about these tubes, naturally I did some research. I read that in certain applications a 6N2P could be used as an alternative to a 12AX7. It runs on only 6.3 volts and since...

It Lives! Completed my new amp build project, MOD102+

About a month ago I received a MOD102+ amp kit as my next project. It's a Class A Fender Champ style amp with an EL84 power tube instead of a 6v6. Controls are pretty simple; Bass, Treble & Volume. There are a few extras for a mid boost, bright boost, and gain boost. The basic build is just...
