So, what do you guys do for a living?

Shit, at the time that you posted this I was hiring a Sr IT Project Manager. Now the job is frozen and I can’t recruit it till things suck less again. Oh, and my job is that I manage a handful of IT project managers. It’s decent work.

How close would a Friedman pedal get a 2204 to the actual Friedman amp?

I’m glad you’re happy with the new pedal! That’s really cool. FYI, I got a chance tonight to try my BE-OD into the clean channels of my DSL and BE-50. I didn’t spend a ton of time tweaking, but I was having a hard time getting it to sound like the real BE. I’m not well practiced at dialing in...

How close would a Friedman pedal get a 2204 to the actual Friedman amp?

Exactly! I think it’s a happy coincidence for me that my favorite sound on the DSL (crunch with a boost) is basically the base tone of the BE, plus you get a clean channel, plus you get a higher gain version with HBE. And a more usable EQ range with a less harsh top end. Admittedly, sometimes I...

How close would a Friedman pedal get a 2204 to the actual Friedman amp?

This definitely matches my real world experience. I think that your videos inspired me to do the A/B comparisons myself. Not exactly the same, but closer than I expected. Feel is different though.

How close would a Friedman pedal get a 2204 to the actual Friedman amp?

I don’t have a 2204, but I do have a DSL 100, a BE-50, and a BEOD. If I get some time tonight, I’ll do a quick comparison using the green channel on the DSL and report back. My best results have been running into the loop return on the DSL, but I’m guessing that you don’t have a loop on your...

Should I buy Peters Format 7 & sell Pro Dual Channel or keep my Pro Dual Channel?

I think James was considering a new single channel design, but I don’t know how far he got with it. I wasn’t in a place to order one from him when he told me about it last year. It seems like he’s usually got a few irons in the fire with new designs and tweaks.

Should I buy Peters Format 7 & sell Pro Dual Channel or keep my Pro Dual Channel?

I think he consolidated his lineup down to 3-4 models now. He put some voicing switches on the new amps to give them some more versatility. I’m not sure how many of each model are out in the wild at this point. Don’t see them too often.

Should I buy Peters Format 7 & sell Pro Dual Channel or keep my Pro Dual Channel?

It’s the tightest and most brutal sounding one, according to what James told me. When he built my amp, he was in the process of turning the Body Hammer into the Plasma Blade. I’ve seen/heard clips of the Body Hammer, and it does sound brutal. I can imagine that the Plasma Blade kills. I haven’t...

Should I buy Peters Format 7 & sell Pro Dual Channel or keep my Pro Dual Channel?

Flying Spaghetti Monster, right? I think he just called it the FSM. If memory serves, he incorporated some aspects of the preamp design from the FSM into the Gryphon/Firejack to make the Fire Hammer. The Plasma Blade is on another level. Haven’t tried one of those bad boys.

Should I buy Peters Format 7 & sell Pro Dual Channel or keep my Pro Dual Channel?

I’ve been keeping an eye on that amp too. Someone needs to buy it, and I’ve been stopping myself from pulling the trigger. I own a Format 7 Fire Hammer (the one pictured on James’ website), but that is my only experience with Peters amps. From my conversations with James when he was building my...

    Badlander vs Marshalls x3

Those sound surprisingly close over my phone speakers. I’m looking forward to checking it out over more proper speakers later. I already decided that I need a Badlander, but this might cement it. How close does it get to the unboosted 800 sound?

I've got some NADs to show off

Awesome finds. The Peters really caught my eye when scrolling through. I haven’t tried his “lower” gain options, but I love the one that I have.

Best High Gain Amp to Complement the Friedman BE100 Deluxe?

Others can chime in about the multiwatts, but from my experience the earlier 2-channel Rectos have less fizz than the 3-channel ones from the early 2000s. The all have a pretty full range sound, with an extended top end and bottom end response. That’s the Recto sound, and it gives them more...

Best High Gain Amp to Complement the Friedman BE100 Deluxe?

You’ve given me enough of a reason to buy a Badlander sight unseen! If I can sneak it past my wife then I’ll provide a review, OP.

Best High Gain Amp to Complement the Friedman BE100 Deluxe?

I’ll throw in a recommendation for a Recto. I’ve had a Rev G Dual Rectifier for a few years now, and I just picked up a BE-50 Deluxe yesterday. They each cover pretty different sonic territory. From a tonal “coverage” standpoint, I think that they give you a really wide base to work from. I...

    Marshall JCM 2000 thoughts?

Not as good as some modern amps at low volume. They need to be turned up a bit to sound less buzzy (master needs to be over 9:00 on Red). The taper is fast like a lot of amps of its day. 9:00 - 9:30 (2 - 2.5) gets pretty loud pretty fast, probably too much for most wives to tolerate if you’re...

    Marshall JCM 2000 thoughts?

I’ve had a DSL 100 since probably 2003. I think it’s from 98 or 99 (one of the bad years?). I did have to have an amp tech look at it back in probably 2004 to fix issues that I had with Lead 2 on the Red channel. He noticed some bad solder joints and fixed those. Maybe some burning too if memory...

I see a lot of new faces here

Hi all, I'm new here also. Never been a poster over at TGP, but I get really amused by their cork sniffing and like to read their posts for the humor benefit. Lurked at HCAF a long time ago, and I've also read lots of old threads here (via Google search) about gear that I wanted to buy / have...

Some food for thoughts on dialing in your amps...

The Recto trick to put the treble at 0 and dial in the high end with the middle and presence control changed my life (well, to an extent). It provides a nice alternate tone from some of the more common settings. Works well on my older 2 channel, and I wouldn’t never thought to try it on my own.
