I'm James: I'm a Tube-a-holic.... recently, i've been heavily considering going digital. thoughts?

I'm pretty sure they can all do this. I just set up a sound with only the preamp section of the desired amp model into the PS-2 and make sure the cab/IR is off. Sounds phenomenal.

I'm James: I'm a Tube-a-holic.... recently, i've been heavily considering going digital. thoughts?

Sorry to hear it. I recently went through a divorce. I almost unloaded a bunch of gear but ended up keeping almost everything and I'm glad I did. I don't play in a band right now, so I feel like I have a lot of stuff that I don't necessarily need. I'd rather sell it off after the fact...

Mark VII vs IV vs IIC+ vs IIB comparo project!

For sure. When I had my little "studio" set up, I almost always preferred a dynamic mic about an inch from the speaker between cone/cap. Sometimes I'd blend a Blue condenser in the room too. But every now and then, I'll make or come across an iPhone clip that really captures the tone well...

Mark VII vs IV vs IIC+ vs IIB comparo project!

Haha. Yeah, there are some really bad clips out there but I actually like a well-done room recording. It can give a good sense of how the amp really sounds when you're playing it. Most of us don't listen with our ears one inch from the cab :)

If you were going to purchase a Kemper, AXEFX, or Synergy gear…

I guess I look at the tweaking thing a bit differently than most. Currently a Line 6 user which I run into a Power Station or the effects return of a tube head, and then into a 212 Mesa cab. I've spent time with Fractal too and I think that's the route I'll eventually take. I agree that...

    Pedalboard that doesn't use velcro?

I still like Dual Lock. Much nicer and more sturdy than velcro. I put horizontal rows down on the board and then cut very small pieces to stick on the pedals and it holds very strongly. I spent some time with a friend's Holeyboard and while the concept is awesome, I don't like the zip ties...

NAD! Mesa Tremoverb and 2-12 Recto horizontal cab

Wow, great deal I just went home for lunch and played mine, same exact setup. I've been dialing mine in lately by looping a few riffs and then tweaking the eq and walking around the room. Such a killer amp. Sucks that I traded my Mark IV for it but it's as good in different ways.

What year is my Boogie cab? Should I change the speakers?

Those are so drastically different. I like the 2001s all-at-once tone much more than the '08s. I know that extra brightness helps it "cut through" and all that, but there are far more pleasing frequencies to be present in a mix or band situation. This perfectly shows why I love/hate V30s...

Traded - Mesa Dual Rectifier Trem-O-Verb

Yeah, pretty sure all TOVs are Rev G. I traded my Mark IV for one a couple years ago and it's a killer amp. I still miss the Mark IV though - mainly the tightness and no need for a boost. But the Tremoverb when boosted and cranked up is huuuuge. And it has a slightly different thing going...

    Hermansson Mod

Bumping this one Considering having him work on my Tremoverb - I love that amp when boosted and cranked, and when the humidity and temperature are just right, and....haha you get the point. That amp (and my last Recto with and without mods and to a lesser degree, my Mark IV) were great amps...

    Albums featuring Cameron amps

Not sure if John Wesley used his on one of the Porcupine Tree albums or if that was just Marshall, Bad Cat amps. He used one for a couple tours.

    Marvel Mod Anyone ?

I'd like to do something with the Red channel on my Classic. Brent P gave me some cool ideas, I just have to get around to trying them out.

    Dan has passed

Nate, been awhile! Yeah, those early RT days were so good. I really wanted to get down there to hang with you guys. Sort of cringe-worthy to go back to old posts and watch yourself "grow up" on the forum but we had some fun. Dan was the coolest and there were only a few people that could...

    Dan has passed

I don’t get on here often anymore and am just seeing this now. Just terrible news:( I became close forum buds with Dan about 12 years ago or so. He’s a fellow Michigan guy although he’s downstate and I’m up in the U.P. I almost made the trip down one time years ago - he was going to host a...

Bogner XTC which one is the nuts ?

Ok, just played the Classic for the first time in quite a while and it’s sounding pretty damn amazing haha. And not as loose/round as I remembered. Maybe it’s just my mood.. I haven’t played my gear in a very long time and it’s all sounding so good. I guess when I play every day I start...

Bogner XTC which one is the nuts ?

It's a little loose and I notice it mostly on the Red channel (Blue seems a bit leaner and tighter), however my main amp for years was a Mark IV so unfair to compare the two. But even my 2555x is a lot quicker and responsive in the low end. I talked to Brent P a couple years back and he came...

    When does G.A.S. hit you?

I am just now starting to get that itch...been out of gear and the whole thing for a long time since tearing down my guitar room, divorce and starting over. Dumped a Mark IVB that I had for years right before all this and now I'm missing it but I still have most of my gear. Played my 2555x...

Bogner XTC which one is the nuts ?

I'd like to try the 35. I love my Classic but have considered trying to tighten it up with a mod..but don't want to lose the magic and the bloom.
