I've started going down the rabbit hole of building old school type fuzzes ....... Tone Bender's .... Fuzz Faces ...etc .

this circuit isn't that old .... but certainly unique .....

I think I'm going to build a few ... probably go with the Albini spec'ed schematic I found . After this friggin weird interview about it .... I kind of have to .

 
Ed Giese, the designer of the HP, did amp repairs and mods for the first music store I ever worked for. Milwaukee area. He'd come by once a week. Everyone wanted to sound to Eddie Van Halen and Ed did a lot of amps mods. He did my guitar player's Peavey Mace head and it sounded tons better after he worked his magic on it. Whenever someone told him they wanted mods, first thing he'd say was "everything's a trade off" so for example if you wanted more gain, OK fine, but understand that there's gonna be more hiss. LOL Our store manager was a phenomenal guitarist from New York who used the HP to spice things up when he wanted to.
