Einstein 7th 12ax7 slot?

I noticed there's a little cap covering what looks like a 7th 12ax7 slot on my Einstein, what's the story behind this? I noticed there's also 2 extra power tube slots so my best guess was that the 100w shares a chassis with the 50w, but I can't find anything stating that the 100w uses 7 12ax7s over 6. It doesn't really matter, I'm just curious really.

Also, has anyone tried KT88s with the Einstein? It's my favourite tube but I've heard the EL34 is where it's at with the Einstein. Would anyone who has tried both disagree/agree with this statement?

Interesting, I don't think I can do this on the 50w though.
