Tube change on VH4

Hello,

i need some help guys,

i just bought a used VH4 and tried the 3rd channel with settings i've already tried in the store on brand new VH4.
but the one i bought sounds very thick, muddy, with loads of basses even with bass way down, and mids and trebble up, it still sound bassy and isn't really punchy, it misses mids and clarity, i feel that it misses gain also...

the guy i bought it from, said that there was nothing wrong with it, but i find it really doesn't sound like the ones i've tried before.

does it need tube or capacitor replacing? and would replacing them change anything?

my VH4 is EL34 originally mounted.

what tube should i put in there? in power section and preamp section. what are the best recommendations?
what types? grades? paired? different kind of tubes for V1,V2,V3... ?
i don't really know anything about all this.

it's just to buy the best tubes for my vh4 before giving it to biasing by a profesionnal tech of course.

i'm playing in a tribute to metallica band! and i'm searching for hetfield's tone.

if it is a capacitor problem what is to be done?

would there be any other problems that would cause this?

thanks for your help.

Alex
