VH2 help

Hey guys new to the board and new to the Diezel family, just purchased a VH2 and have a weird static sound coming from it when the amp is switched from stand by to on position. I’ve tried 3 cabinets various speaker cables, outlets and guitars. Does it regardless of guitar being plugged in or not, amp settings or channel, volume can be off as well and it still does it. Any ideas before I ship it back? Likewise I notice it doesn’t seem to have nearly the amount of gain or volume as my Mesa JP2C, anyone have any experience with the two to tell if this is normal? Thanks for any input,
Mark

If it's new, it's certainly a warranty issue, so you needn't do the guesswork yourself.
On the other hand: Could you make a recording? It's maybe just a bad preamp tube. Diezel amps do not break easily. It's mostly bad tubes.

Sweetwater is sending me another one so I’ll keep my fingers crossed the replacement is what I had hoped for in this amp.

It's going to almost certainly be tube that has died!

If you want to own a tube amp it's a good idea to get to know what can go wrong with tubes - modern production ones are not that amazing and can fail pretty much spontaneously. :)

If you have the sound you are describing (and / or whining, a sound like wind, excessive crackling or what sounds like frying) then a tube is dying. You can test them in situ by lightly tapping them with a pencil and the microphonic one will indicate itself when you hit it. Either that or roll a known good one through the preamp by replacing those in the preamp one at a time with it.

Thanks for the advice. I’ve had tube amps for almost 30 years and haven’t heard a sound quite like this one and according to the specs the power tubes are KT77 and I don’t have spares for those and also for almost three grand I feel as though I shouldn’t have to work on an amp out of the box since it was my understanding that swapping the power tubes requires rebasing according to the Tech at Sweetwater. The guys have me a replacement on the way so I’ll keep my fingers crossed and hope it’s all good.

Hi Mark,

I don´t know what happened to your first VH2.
Hopefully you will be happy with the next one.

Best regards,
Peter

Peter thanks for your input I’ll update how the new one is when it shows up, I expect it will live up to what I’m hoping for. Love your amps and can’t wait to have one in my collection.

100% a tube issue. I've had this same exact problem with a boogie mark 5 a couple years ago. It was either the V1 or the phase inverter 12ax7 that freaked out (the problem occurred on all channels). Good luck with your replacement.
Could you do a video or two once you get yours? I am based in Europe and I am looking into these VH2s but there's literally almost nothing on YT.

Well the new amps been on the floor for nearly a week in the box due to having a sick kid in the hospital but I got about 15 minutes on it today and it’s awesome. I’m really happy with the sound and it’s night and day difference from the first one. All good.
