Hi,

Cool Post!

edit for ya: Tremonti of Alterbridge does not use the Herbert he is Mesa/Bogner/Two Rock Guy. Myles Kennedy the signer in the band uses a Herbert though.

Best,
Brad

I've seen Sikth 6 times and Pin uses Diezel, I think Dan might have had one at one show but I'd never seen him use them otherwise I think. Pin has a Herbert (and a Blackmachine :D )

Added Tremonti again, plus the Staind guys. Alex Fluoros is next. :)

If you know: Please let us know which model they play, not just the name/band. :)

Thanks Olaf! :)

I think this will be a very good resource for perspective owners who are after a certain sound, even though we all know it's not just the amp. :)

Sacha from Divinity plays an ENGL SE EL34 now, although the guitar sound on their CD is a Herbert mixed with an Uberschall.

Robin Staps of "The Ocean" also used to use a VH4. He still had it when I saw them in Marburg last year summer and he used it on the last record. In fall when they toured with Opeth I think he was using a Mesa Triaxis setup.

VERY entertaining post!! Thanks for that...!!

And judging from all your ESP's, I guess there's no need in my telling you you'll love the H FR-II, they're awesome. My "incoming" is a NT-II DBSB

Of ALL the peeps mentioned in the list, believe it or not, it was my being a Tool/Adam Jones fanatic that brought me to Diezel... I bet he gets some pretty sweet shwag (eh Peter??)

Avagoodnight!

hey Jaymz...... seriously, in this day and age record contracts are overrated. Get yourselves out there, promote the fuck out of yourselves, play everywhere you can, use the power of the internet to create a fanbase...... you'll have MORE FUN, make some more cash than you would if you had a record deal. And If you create a fanbase large enough to pick the interest of a few record companies, you'll be in a WAAY better position to negociate record contracts.

there are tons of books DIY music career, I've read a few and they definitely have a point.

Of course we'd love to be touring arenas and playing in front of 15,000 people every night, but that doesn't happen over night, unless you're a "puppet-boy-band" and even those guys end up all burnt down just because they're a record company toy band.

Thanks for your kind words Joey and don't worry. That is what we are doing. We played like 40 shows within the last two years, recorded a record we financed on our own and we try to be present on the web as much as possible.
You're are absolutely right, that is were you can find people who like your music and we finally have a quite respectable local fan base and even some good friends overseas.

The only thing that bothers my is, that possibilities are sometimes very limited if you are not signed to a label. For example the big mags here in Germany will always tread you records as 'demo recording' if you are not signed to a label. Or we were not allowed to play shows because we didn't have a record deal. That gets frustrating sometimes.

Still, we have fun with what we are doing and finally get some connections and friend in larger bands that help us a lot. For example: Through a friend we got the chance to play a festival nearby with Entombed headlining or got the chance to do a gig with Abandoned through a club we are member of.

And last but not least, we got to meet many many nice people and musicians and that is what is really great. Going to new places, meet nice people and have fun.
I surely don't want to miss that ever again.

I commend Trent Reznor for his non-establishment approach to fan-base/worldly success and music dissemination as of late.

Internet all the way - screw the suits at the companies!

well then create a label yourself. It's not very hard, just some legal stuff to take care.

once again, it's all about marketing yourselves as much as you can, specially on the web.

one thing to REALLY Think about:

FREE music

seriously.... selling a CD for 12 bucks as a starting band might me too much for someone right now. give the music for free and make your money on the road. Obviously offer the CD at a higher quality for some cash (I'd go lower than 12.. how many songs are there on the CD? I'd charge 1 euro a song so 10 songs = 10 euros, if you have more than 10 songs make em so that the whole CD is NOT more than 10 euros. But you can offer half of the songs on the CD for FREE through download only and in a lowerquality (myspace quality for example). Believe me if people like the music they downloaded for free and they will pay to hear the rest of the album and specially at a higher quality.

Have cool little merchandise to sell at the gigs such as t-shirts and stuff.

another cool thing to do is include an Bonus download for people that buy the album, that bonus could have 5 extra songs that are not on the album, or even better 3 extra original songs NOT on the album AND 3 or 4 COOL ASS covers by your band. I doubt you'll get into trouble with said bands because you're not cashing in on them, you're giving them for free (of course as a free bonus for the people that buy the CD). You could make this bonus studio quality, or as a live recording (I'd do the originals as a recording, and the covers live, that way people can familiarize with how you play live and know what to expect when they go to a live show)

there are TONS of great marketing strategies man, honestly you don't need the record deal as much as you thing, or anybody things.

Of course the DIY route has a bit of a "limit" but when you hit that limit recording companies will be fighting to sign you, and you'll make your demands. What else could you loose at that point? loosing the signing opportunity? fuck them, you keem on the DIY route then.

Well, we have already done most of the stuff you recommend. We have recorded two demo records plus two extra demo songs you could get for free until we released the album.
The album is professionally recorded, produced and comes with a 8 page booklet and was produced by a professional CD maker company. It has 10 tracks and costs 10€ plus shipping which is fair imo. Three tracks are available as download from our website and on myspace. Additionally we have shirts, buttons and stickers. Everything is sold at gigs, through our own website and another shop.
Still it is very hard to sell the stuff. People come to our concerts and like our music but it is a success if we are able to sell more than a handful of shirts or CDs. It seems that people aren't willing to pay for music anymore. I thought that especially with metal people still like to buy CDs but I guess I was mistaken.
Don't get me wrong, we have fun with what we are doing and that won't change.

Great news  Although I must admit that I liked Alter Bridge a little better than Creed I'm really looking forward to their new record

I saw pictures of Gallows using a VH4 in the studio, not sure if they use it live though.

When my rearloaded 4x12" arrives, can the webmaster put my name and my new VH4 to that list?

I was reading down the list and saw that Olaf's name was not on it, and I was going to ask that he be placed on it.
And lest we forget, the guitarist in the band Boys Voice!
His name needs to go on the list...preferably at the top of it.
