Wondering if using a Tungsol 12AT7 6201 would be a good tube for the Renegade V6 P.I. postion ?
I ask because the manual suggest 12AX7 but was wondering if a lower gain tube like the 12AT7 might be better in the V6 P.I. on the Renegade ?
Im going for the best clean sound I can get as I run my effects straight into the front of the amp and primarily use the Clean channel....would a 12AT7 like this be better in V6 for those purposes ?
..........what about other positions like maybe the V5 effects loop ? .....does the effects loop tube affect the tone if the effects loop is not being used ?
Just ordered a Tungsol 12AT7 6201 to give it a shot any one use 12AT7's ?

Right now my Renegade is running on these, and my clean channel is pretty darn nice:
preamp tubes now:
V1 Tung Sol 12AX7
V2 Tung Sol 12AX7
V3 GT 12AX7-R3 (same as EH 12AX7)
V4 GT 12AX7-R3
V5 GT 12AX7-R3
V6 P.I. GT-12AX7-C (Chinese tube,better/smoother than people give it credit for)
I highly recommend the Tungsol 12AX7 to anyone wanting to make their amp more musical because thats the best way to describe what they have done for my amps tone, if a $15 tube makes this much difference Im afraid to try an NOS cause I'll be broke.
I have on the way a Tungsol 12AT7 6201, another Tungsol 12AX7, and a GT-ECC83-S (JJ ECC83-S)
I am going to set the preamp section up like this and see if I cant improve things even more:
V1 Tung Sol 12AX7
V2 Tung Sol 12AX7
V3 GT-ECC83-S (JJ ECC83-S ..hoping to create some magic in the drive channel)...if it dosnt work like I want then a Tung sol in V3 and Mullard in V4
V4 GT-12AX7-R3 (EH12AX7) or GT-12AX7-C for a smoother tone...this will probably get changed out for a Tung sol or Mullard in the future....
V5 Tung Sol 12AX7 (Im not sure if the effects loop tube affects the tone when its not being used (I dont use it) but thought it might so...the Tung Sol 12AX7's are awesome.
V6 P.I. Tung Sol 12AT7 6201 (Read that a 12AT7 in the P.I. slot cleans things up (less gain)but pushes the power tubes harder than an 12AX7 creating more Power Tube breakup....? dont know but gonna try it and see, words like Better Dynamics were used to describe its effect in the P.I. slot....not sure if the Renegades circuit makes a difference one way or the other ???
