I'm wondering if one wants the looks and external bias plus the resonance knobs but wants the original tone. Just reverse the mods back to original specs and voila!!!!!

Id be up cor that
It would make more sense financially to just get the standard 100w. Whats a few more minutes to take out the chassis to adjust bias. It's not like it gets adjusted on a daily basis. And if one does, I think they have to stop tweaking and start playing. The resonance control was originally placed on the 50w to increase the thump, especially when using the paired smaller 1x12 and 2x12 cabs. My standard 100w doesn't need a resonance when playing at band volume through a 4x12.

Yeah but it's fun checking the bias once in a while, its like checking the oil in your car. It'd be a hassle removing the valve covers to check it :D

What's the price difference when buying new, stealth vs regular?

The looks are awesome on the stealth.

I think $1799 vs $2199 on the Stealth...buy my pre-loved one for less than the std one if you really want the Stealth

Just got in from playing the stealth with my drummer. Again focused on "Rock" not metal.
Played about 3 hours.
Blue channel.....gain about 2. Timmy pedal to boost for solos. Just a GREAT...GREAT tone.
So cutting modern with the basic rock tone. The resonance on the back lets you dial in just that tad of 'thump'. :D
Just a tone machine. ;)

2 out of 10.
I dont kick the blue past noon. If I want the REAL heavy stuff I go to the Red channel with gain about 2-3 out of 10 as well.

AAAHHHHHH

These threads are killing me!

I've got the 50 watt head and really want to try one of these.....

Just wait a few more weeks. All the current hype brought on by the Stealth will diminish and you won't see another 5153 thread until the next incarnation hits the market.

That is one thing I have noticed here in the past few years. The 5153 gets alot of love....then it disappears from conversations.
Bout 6 months later....its flavor of the week again. Then back in hiding.
I FN love mine.

I haven't played a Stealth, but couldn't the gain be tamed by replacing one or more of the 12AX7s with a lower gain tube such as a 5751? That's worked on other amps. V1 would be a good place to try if the gain on all channels seems too high.

There is no logic to want to tame a Stealth! It's made to be exactly as it is!

You sure about that?

There is a saying in French that goes"Sometimes too much is like not enough". The word we would be talking about here is GAIN.

Chris

Stealth is a bodybuilder on steroids. It must stay like that. If you want just a healthy athlete you go with the regular 5153. That one you can tame with lower gain pre tubes if you want...

love my reg 5153.
did the gain mod and f*ck she rocks. no need for the stealth.
i actually read that the insides of the stealth are exactly the same as the reg head. i seen where the factory snipped a couple joints on the pcb and also a pic of a couple extra wires bypassing something but the pic didnt show where the wires go??
maybe thats why its hard for some of these stealth owners to post a pic of the inside and lets see what was done.
all in fun
