Kemper and Direct Recording

Thinking about grabbing a Kemper which I would like to use for direct recording. I have a Apogee Duet interface which does not support SPDIF , so I am open to buying another interface that does..My question is for those recording direct , do you find the Kemper to work really well. I noticed a couple other threads saying some guys were having trouble with levels distorting the signal at low volumes. I am running a Mac, if anyone has suggestion on which SPDIF interface that is good quality at $400 or less that would be great.

You can just use the 1/4 in main outs into your interface right? No problem with levels at all. Records direct like a champ for me

Ok so I can record direct without SPDIF ? , I figured I can ...However when I did that with the Axefx standard I had a while back it just sounded ok..I could get the same tone or better out of Guitar Rig 4 plugins.. Wouldnt there be a big difference with using a SPDIF interface so I can get the best tone using the Kemper direct ? I could be wrong which is why Im on here asking questions, any help or suggestions is appreciated.

I use the XLRs right into my audio interface via a Mac. All of my clips have been direct and very low volume. You wouldn't know it by how they sound.

you have a good interface with good conversion. The conversion on the kemper is outstanding. you will be plenty fine. Using digital will eliminate some conversion steps, but with your gear and kemper, shouldn't be an issue. I personally prefer taking the analog out, going into my mic pre, and then into my interface over just using the Digital out. IT adds a nice color that I like in comparison.

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but this page came up searching google. Hopefully this info can help others looking for answers.

I was in the same boat as you (Kemper amp - analog out, into a duet) I've found a relatively inexpensive solution to get the digital signal into the mac. I picked up a coaxial (RCA) to optical (toslink) digital converter off of ebay for $50. Macs have mini toslink optical ports inside of the line in and headphone jacks. My mac mini has both an optical in and out, so i'm able to reamp.
