Cutting upper mids of V30s + smooth woody lows of GBs?

Anybody have a speaker that does this? I love both of my Bogner cabs: one has Marshall T3987 Vintage 30s, the other has EVH signature Greenbacks. I wish I could have the cut and aggressiveness of the upper mids and highs from the V30s especially for slicing through a band mix, along with the woody punchy lows I get out of the GBs. Right now my solution in mind is to eventually buy a second head to drive the two cabs separately, since I have to dial my SLO clone differently for each cab to be ideal. It'll sound great, but maybe I just need a speaker that's closer to what I have in mind. Does such a unicorn speaker exist?

Put 2 of each in a cab?

Nah, the GBs aren't as loud and the sweet spot for each speaker is different settings-wise on my amp.

G12 65s. Lows of a GB, good mids but not the piercing amount like a V30. I've only played the vintage ones out of an 800 cab, so no experience with the reissue Heritages. But I have played the WGS ET65 and they're very close. 65 per speaker. They say the 65 is a high powered GB but I feel GBs have a lot of high end, 65s don't have as much and the mids sit perfectly to me.

But... I guess I should at least try it

V30s on bottom and Greenback RIs on top is popular among the Friedman crowd.

Celestion V-Type!

I use two in a oversized Diezel! Great sounding speakers, very light, much better than a combinations of v30/Greenback (which I also use)

Cool tips, guys. I have G12-65's on my list of speakers to try, but have figured they won't cut like V30s. Regardless, I'm always watching craigslist for someone to pawn off a beat up 80s Marshall with a quad of 'em.

You should definitely try the old '80's G12-65's... It might just be an EQ adjustment on the amp to get the cut you're looking for...

Another fan of the G12-65s here. I've had V30 cabs (Mesa, Mills) and I like my old G12-65 loaded 1960B better. They are not quite as nasty and cutting as the V30s while still retaining that upper mid spike and they have a punchier low end than greenbacks while keeping that raunchy midrangy sound of them. Really fantastic speaker. I'd heard about them for years and lucked into a beat up 1960B loaded with them for $175. Having had them for a while now, I would have paid 3 or 4 times that and been happy.

They sound fantastic with my Mesa Mark III and my Mesa Electradyne has never sounded better. On the downside, they don't pair well with my Diezel Herbert, IMO.

If you can't find original G12-65s and don't want to pay for the reissues, Weber has a nice clone of them for about $50 less a pop.

I also have some ceramic Weber Blue Dogs that, though they sound completely different and aren't even close to the G12-65s, I would describe them nearly the same way. Bright, cutting, upper mids, big low end, nice girth through the midrange. The Blue Dogs break up a lot more though, even the 50W versions I have. Very nasty speaker and I mean that in a good way, but definitely more for a vintage sound than the stadium rock the G12-65s were made for. Probably not what you're looking for, but thought I'd mention it.

Lynchbacks. I have my Egnater cab loaded with them and really couldn't ask for much more out of them (although I do prefer Greenbacks overall)

Will they be able to handle a 120Watt head when using a 2x12?

Probably not a good idea. They're rated for 50 watts.

I've got a Marshall JCM800 4x12 loaded with 65's. I'm using a Mark IV on it, sounds great. In the room they don't sound as nasty or cutting as V30's.

AS long as you aren't cranking it you most likely will be fine with 2 50 watt speakers. Have heard many times that celestions ratings are conservative as well.
