I´ve owned an LP standard with a 60`s neck. Sold it and bought an LP Custom (Custom Shop) with a 50´s neck. The custom was superior and so was the neck. I used to believe that fat necks would be difficult to play fast on. I was very wrong :)

60's neck for me, but I came from a fender strat. Once I stopped wishing my gibson les paul played like a fender strat and embraced the differences, I was much happier.

I like the beefy 50's style LP necks (and similarly the beefy early 50's Tele necks). I think the extra wood helps the tone and stability of the neck as well.

I had two LP's, one with a 60's and the other with a 50's style neck. I'm not a shredder so speed is not a factor in neck size, however, tone IS! I found the 50's neck LP to have a bigger tone. I don't know, it could have been other factors of course but the tone of the 50's LP was way thicker to me. The 60's style neck was a bit more comfortable at first but after playing the 50's neck a bunch I just got used to it.

I sold the LP with the 60's neck.
