Mullard reissue preamp tubes Are they any good?

Are they any good? They seem to get good reviews... are they just relabeled Sovteks or are they actually re-engineered some to improve tone and quality?

I've heard a couple of clips where the Mullard reissue was used in V1 of a Marshall Plexi with JJ's in V2 and V3 and it sounded really good. Almost on par with some long plate Sylvania's I use. I also see they have a shorter plate model the CV4004 or something like that, supposedly for higher gain applications.

Just wondering if they are worth the $20 price tag or not?

I prefer a long plate Sylvania to the RI Mullards.

Then again, I don't like modern preamp tubes, from anyone. Occasionally they'll pass for OK, perhaps in a mix gigging, but they just don't compare favorably to old stock.

That being said, Chinese 9th gens are the best IMHO of the moderns.

EDIT: If you wanna do Mullard on the cheap, get NOS CV4024/12AT7 and crank it instead of getting a RI.
