Axe FX II - Effects Only

Hey all, anyone using the Axe FX II as an effects only processor? I plan on running it in the 4cm between two amps simultaneously in stereo (so 7cm technically...). I've heard some rumbling about it depleting tone a bit or can be noisy. Does anyone have any experience, likes, dislikes?
 
Effects are awesome, good enough for vai and petrucci :) A friend had a JP2c running with 4 cable method and it sounded great.

Good to know! I know a lot of players use it in the efx loop only, but haven't heard it works nearly as well in the 4cm.
