... now where to put them...

I know...

I have a feeling they'll sound great in here:

The SED =C= 6L6GCs in there now don't sound too bad either.

Hey dude nice score. I have the same exact amp. Enjoy. Do the NOS tubes sound better to you?

Better by a mile.

Wizard...how do you like the amp?

Also, I have 9-10 matched quads of the Sylvania 415’s. :D

I like it. I like it.

I think it might beat out my MKIIC++ DRG. It's meaner, punchier, and a bit more aggressive and evil. Not as smooth. The palm mutes hit harder. And my MKIIC++ DRG is a bad mother focker. Further testing is needed. More Metallica MOP and AJFA will be played.

The neighbors like it too.

One thing I've noticed with those Sylvanias...in a Mark series, you can hear a definite improvement in 3D type tone with them. In other amps, they sound great but not necessarily that much better than some other brands...for instance in a Recto, or SLO I didn't find much difference in the Sylvanias vs TAD in the recto or wafer 5881s in the SLO.
But in a Mark they are a must have IMO.

I liked it over the DRG++ I had for all of the reasons you mentioned.

They are definitely not bad. Maybe a bit bigger, deeper, chunkier sounding.

The SED =C= logos in here now are pretty good too. Still want to give the TAD 6L6GCs a shot too.

... which is ironic as the DRGs get hyped due to Hetfield.

I tried TAD big bottle 6L6 back-to-back with Sylvanias and imo the TADs sounded good but did not have the girth/depth/clarity of the Sylvanias. But they did have snarlier mids on the lead channel which was cool for some things.

And $18.95 per tube...not bad.

Thanks for the info. That’s the thing... not only finding the Sylvanias... but finding a matched quad or pair... and in the right bias range. Lots of the NOS Sylvania 6L6GCs for sale run too hot. Or try to get lucky and match your own pair or quad. Luck and time... vs cheap cost and easy.

The ones in my IIC+ were too hot, psychodave could tell just from the label the seller put on them and told me they were likely too hot. I only have 3 pair, no decently matched quad.

I think the SED 6L6's were a thing of beauty. Killer sounding 6L6. A perfectly, fine-tuned masterpiece. Better than their EL34. That was killer too, but not the wow-factor of their 6L6, IMO.

When I ran or run a 6L6 based amp..The SEDS are my go to tube. Pre winged C or Winged C's I prefer the pre Winged C type

I currently have some Winged C 6L6’s in my Mark IVa. C8 preamp tubes.

The SED =C= (pre or post logo... even back when they were just plain old Svets lol) are really good sounding. Nothing to f-wit. And they sound great in a bunch of different amps too. Those and the old C8 6N4 double wafer square getter preamp tubes really sound good. About as good as it gets for me.

It's really too bad that SED is no longer manufacturing tubes. No plans to restart from anything I've heard. They're still in business, though. I believe that they're concentrating on medical technology.
