I borrowed my friends Mills cab today to do a comparison with my Bogner and Diezel cabs. I've been thinking about offing my cabs for a couple of Mills cabs after being real impressed when I played one a few weeks ago.

Long story short, I'll probably be ordering 2 Mills cabs this week and selling the Diezel cab. The Bogner cab is a close second to the Mills cab, but it lacks the girth and thickness that the Mills offers. I was kind of surprised since I was expecting the Mills cab to be alot better. It wasn't. It was better though. If I didn't own a cab, it would be my first choice....but since I already own the Bogner, the decision to add the Mills was harder. It really took playing the Diezel/Bogner cab together to get the thickness/girth that the Mills cab had by itself. Side-by-side, the Diezel was clearly the weakest of the three, though without a direct comparison, you'd think it was a bad ass cab. I wasn't completely apples to apples though. The Mills has all v30s and the Diezel/Bogner cabs are x-pattern v30/g12K100s. I'll probably get one v30 cab and one x-pattern cab with the gk100s.

Its that, and its less directional. You can stand in front of each cab, and be like, whatever. Its when your sitting off center when it hits you.

I find the Mills fills and projects better than the cabs you compared it too.

Cool. Adore my Bogner cab but would love to try a Mills.

Try a front loaded 4x12 Diezel before you buy another Mills. It will part your hair . I wasn't a fan of the Mills cab. To me, it is much the same as a Mesa rectifier cab or any other. To each his own though. I agree on the Uber cab though. Mine always has one of the amps plugged in.

 That's the other cab I have GAS for, but I can get 2 Mills cabs for not much more than 1 of the new Diezel cabs. It's a big risk not being able to play one first and I know the Mills sounds great.

I couldn't disagree more with that statement. Its not even comparable. As for the diezel front loaded, at 1700 plus USD, A) its not better than the Mills, B) its not worth 1700 plus

The Mills afterburner is the real deal. I liked it better than the Bogner v30 bottom also.

I'm GASing hard for a Mills. By now we all know the Mills sound bigger, & more growl than other cabs.

My question is :

How is the high end character on the Mills ? Is is smoother/rounder than the Bogner and does it have the bite/crunchy high end character of the Bogner ?

Maybe the Mills 4x12 straight (B) has more going for it than the slant. May have to pull it out of the garage and check it out again.

Hmm.

I hated the Diezel Front Loaded.

It's the only 4x12 I've sold. I tried a ton of speakers in it too.

It was just too insanely directional. From 50 feet away, I could hear the beam change if I moved 6 inches to the right or left. Hated it. I almost couldn't even hear it if my head was more then 2 feet above it and in the same room.

My VHT, and Trace Elliot both ate it for lunch.

Never again.

I just took delivery of the Afterburner Classic which is about 3" smaller than the standard, it sounds great, not as deep sounding as the standard was but perfect for that less gain Marshall tone that I like. I wanted to try a Bogner but I'm not a fan of a cab that needs to be stuffed with pillow casing to sound good? It's the exact same dimensions and build as a Mojo Marshall cab, you can just stuff one of those.

Is the classic tighter/more foccussed than the oversized Mills ? Or the other way, more vintage ?

BTW I took the batting out of my Bogner cab and it sounds great. Sounds great with and without it, doesn't really "need" it to sound good.

The 4x12 is smoother over all but has that thump that hits you in the chest. The 2x12 has the bite, and his classic model is supposed to be in vain of Marshall, but with the special sauce of Mills

Good, get that stuff out of there, I want to hear wood resonating not cotton balls. I would say that the Mills Classic is still tight, definitely can run way more bass through it if I had too compared to my Mojo 412. It may even be tighter than my Standard was, can't say for sure though.

Cool. In light of Fixxer's comment above, would you say the classic has more of a classic Marshall bite on the top end, compared to the oversized ?

How tight and focused is the low end on the Mills compared to the Bogner and Diezel?

Anyone get a Tuki cover or Studio Slip for there Mills Afterburner 4x12B? Looking to order one of those too.
