So Cal-What's under the pickguard?

I read in Guitar World that the body is solid under the pickguard. In other words, the pickguard is purely asthetics. Is this true or not? Is the body just like a Fender strat underneath? Also, would you go So Cal over San Dimas if you had to chose & why????? Thanks

The rout under the pickguard is H-S-H and it is routed just like a strat for the electronics.

As for which you should get it is really just a question of looks or if you are really partial to the particular Dimarzios in the So Cal or the Duncans in the San Dimas. I have two So Cals and one San Dimas and love them all. They all have Duncans in them though.

IMO the So-Cal also has lower mids working while the San Dimas has a tad more bite to it, can't really explain anymore due to lack of colorful words but they do sound different.

I have SD in both.
