Schaller M6 Mini Locking Tuners... WOW!

Installed a set of these in my PRS SE Korina.
I purchased 3 sets for all my PRS SE guitars, but I'm going to order another set for my Ibanez PGM301.
Restring time is cut down to only a few minutes.
I didn't even stretch the strings after restringing and the guitar held tune almost as good as when I stretch the living shit out of the strings on any other guitar I've restrung.
I'm very impressed.

If you look closely at this pic, you can see how much closer the Schaller M6 Mini Locking Tuners pull the strings down towards the headstock.
This slightly increased angle of string-pull really does add something extra to the guitar's tone:

Here's the other two sets ready to go for when my PRS SE Akerfeldt and PRS SE 25th Anniversary Custom 24 arrive:

Here's some random guitar porn:

And here's my beloved Korina.
All it needs now are the BG Pickups installed and the stock nut replaced with a Graphtech Tusq self lubricating nut, and it will be good to go:

Nice! I like how close the string is brought to the headstock.

And you best have pictures of that Akerfeldt when it comes in!

Thanks Casey.
I'll take plenty of Akerfeldt SE pics for you.
It might arrive at the end of the week, but realistically it'll be early next week.

Planet Waves will chop the string for you and give a cleaner look!
Ya I've seen those. I prefer the blank chrome look of the Schallers to the Planet Waves.
And I have a Farley guitar tool for cutting the strings.
I left the strings long because I'll be replacing the stock nut with a Graphtech in the next few days and I want to be able to reuse these new strings I just put on. This guarantees that they'll be long enough to poke through the holes.
After the nut replacement, I'll chop the strings right down close to the hole.
:)

After installing the Planet Waves in my Artcore (which required some unexpected drilling), I can see why you'd like the Schallers better in terms of looks.

I do like the way they look on my Artcore though, Chrome knobs looks nice, and the black posts are cool since the headstock is black.

I HATE restringing with a passion, which has put me into a love/hate relationship with my RG770. With these things on my Artcore, I can string and tune up in about 5 minutes. Incredible

Now if only it was that easy to re-string my Edge Pro on the 770. Takes me 2 hours

Hey man, I ended up grabbing a set of Planet Waves after all.
They were the only ones I could find that would fit my Edwards Sykes LP (fingers crossed).
How come you had to drill your Artcore man?
What was the unexpected problem?

And yeah I couldn't believe how easy and fast the string change was after installing the locking tuners.
It literally took a few minutes.
All my keeper guitars are getting locking tuners now.

Oh and don't start me on Floyds. :scared:
I've recently sold off all my Floyd guitars coz I'm just so sick of maintaining them.
I purchased the Akerfeldt SE and the 25th Anniversary Custom 24 SE to replace my Floyd guitars. :D

Looks good; I need to buy a set for my SE Korina. The Mushok is going to be a bitch to find tuners for. Might have to go the Sperzel route and order a special tuner for the .68.

Let's see if I can explain it in a way that makes since...

Ok, the plate where the screw that goes into the back of the headstock to hold the entire fixture in was on a different angle than the old tuners. There is a metal piece that protrudes from the body of the tuner, with a hole in it for the screw. On the Planet Waves, this piece is straight down from the body of the tuner. The Ibanez tuners had this piece on an angle, so I had to drill new holes to accommodate the different plate on the new tuners.

Did that make ANY since at all?

What?!?!
One at a time, put the ball end at the tuning machine like I showed you?

Hey there good buddy.
Let me make it easy for you.

Grab three of these: http://www.warmoth.com/Schaller-Mini-Locking-Tuner-Left-Chrome-P119C726.aspx
And three of these: http://www.warmoth.com/Schaller-Mini-Locking-Tuner-Right-Chrome-P988C726.aspx

No drilling, no modding, straight swap replacement.
What a difference they make.
Can't help you with the Mushok though.
Good luck mate. :)

Aha. Gotchya.
That's actually the reason why I had to go with the Planet Waves for my Edwards Sykes LP.
The Edwards needs that straight tab instead of the angle tab on the Schaller and Gotoh locking tuners.
The Planet Waves were the only locking tuners I could find that had that straight tab.

Uncross your fingers - they'll work perfectly in an Edwards Sykes. I use the Planet Waves in mine and they are a direct replacement...

Excellent!
I was sure they'd be a direct fit, but you never know.
Thanks for confirming that for me Steve.

I have been using those Schallers on 2 guitars for 10+ years now, best locking tuners made.
After only 1 day of using them, I went and ordered more sets for my other guitars.
I'd have got them for all my guitars but they wouldn't fit in the other 2. :(

Good to know the Warmoth-provided Schallers are a direct fit for the Korina; great price too!

Yeah, the Mushok is going to be a bitch. Supposedly I can special order a larger bore tuner for the bottom .68, and the rest will be fine. Not a fan of drilling headstocks though, even for just pilot holes.

Firejack,

I read you wonderful thread, and had 2 questions.

1. did you have to drill new holes for the Schaller M6 Mini Locking Tuners?
2. your pictures make it look like the 6th and 1st tuning pegs almost hit the headstock. A silly question, but can you confirm that they do not?

Thanks for you help! I just want to make a smart purchase for locking tuners for my new SE Singlecut.

Thanks.

How did you go with the Mushok btw?

Nope it's a straight swap. Really simple installation.
Unscrew and remove old tuners, insert and screw on new Schallers.
And I can confirm that the tuners do not hit the headstock.
