Tell me about the 20th Shiva Boost

So I just bought a 20th Shiva head so by some time next week I'll have this figured out for myself, but I am really curious how the boost works.
On the XTC I know the boost on blue and red adds gain, but not volume.
On the Shiva I see there is a separate volume control for the boost, but it isn't billed as a solo boost. One video I saw the dude said you can set the volume higher to kick up for leads but it also adds some gain.
Typically I like a transparent volume jump only boost for leads. Just trying to figure out if the boost on the amp and footswitch will set me up for punching up my volume for solo work or if it is needed more as a gain boost to get up in the high gain I'll want. Then I would need an EQ in the loop for solos.
Also wondering how the boost master effects the boost when it is used on the clean channel?

The amp's boost adds a preset amount of gain, and you can adjust the level control to however loud you need it...Louder or lower than your primary master.
The clean channel gets the same amount of gain boost, but you cant adjust the level. And since the clean channel is pretty high headroom, its not really like an overdrive...more of a dynamic boost.

I only use the amps boost function as a lead volume boost.

I have 4 presets on my midi footcontroller.

Preset 1: clean channel
Preset 2: overdrive channel
Preset 3: OD channel w/ EP Booster to add gain.
Preset 4 (lead OD channel w/ EP with amp boost (for volume)

Yes you can set it as a lead volume bump, but it also adds gain.

Yes you can set it as a lead volume bump, but it also adds gain.

I've only noticed a very small amount of increases gain from the boost.

It adds gain and a little saturation depending on where the gain is set as it varies some. The boost volume lets you set the volume independently from the regular channel. Great amp congrats. I just never have gotten a long with the standard or 20th's stock voicing and so want to (I've owned sliver, green chassis and 20th) I've always wanted the shiva's gain channel to be similar to the XTC blue channel.
