Torpedo Captor - How much wattage can it REALLY handle?

Just curious... The spec says it can take 100W RMS, but we all know that RMS is the wattage an amp puts out clean and goes beyond that when the power section distorts. In that sense, a 100 watt Marshall 1959 puts out 100W RMS at about 4-5 on the volume but really hits 170W when dimed.

I guess my question is, can a Captor (or Live, Studio, or ReLoad) handle a dimed 1959?

I use 1987x 50W version with Torpedo Live and my input knob for the load is around 10 o'clock, and I play it dimed of course, volume at 8. Input is not overloaded at all and has room for even higher wattage input, and I guess 1987x is outputting way more than 50W while cranked.

Studio with 150W load should handle 1959 just fine.

yes, that would be a safe way to do it, again if you really need to dime your amp. ;)
Well... There is only one way to get a quad of 6CA7's to distort. :p
