Using VB-101 with a Bass Amp

Damageplan

New member
Hi there,

just a short question about using my VB-101 with a Bass Head/Amp.
Bass Heads normally do have higher wattages as guitar amps.
In my case my bass player is using a TC Electronic RH 750 which has 750 Watts.

Is it save using it with my VB-101 without damaging one of the units?

Thanks for your help
Matthias

Hi Matthias,

I would first think about the interest of pushing at max volume the TC amp. in my opinion there are no good thing that could come from this type of amp near max volume.

The VB-101 is protected against overheating and will prompt a message on screen if the bass amp is too loud.

We recommend to set the input gain of the VB-101 around -35dB max (well, don't put it less than -35dB).

On this basis, you can adjust the output volume of the bass amp to :

1- not saturate the input stage of the VB-101
2- avoid any overheating

We have a lot of units in the studios, they are used everyday with bass amps and so far I never heard of a problem.

Hi Guillaume,

thanks for your answer.

I was not going to push the TC to max volume, it makes no sense. I would have done it like with all my other amps, master volume somewhere between 9 to 11 o' clock. The input gain is then set to about -22dB, I hope that's ok too?
I never had a problem with overheating or something else.

Cheers
Matthias

Hey Matthias,

Any value not below -35dB is just perfect. ;)

I never had a problem with overheating or something else.

Even if you have one, the machine will tell you and protect itself and the amplifier. Just be sure to do the tests at home/in the studio rather than on stage. ;)

Cheers.
