Direct recording with two notes C.A.B?

I'm looking at acquiring a C.A.B. however I'm a bit confused about the USB function, is it just for transmitting data and using the software, or can it be used for direct recording to a DAW? Or would I still need a mic preamp of some sort in between the C.A.B and my DAW?

The USB is for using the remote, managing the library and updates, it does not transmit audio to the host computer. You would not need a mic pre-amp as the CAB output is line level and if your computer has a line level input, you could use that without an additional audio interface.

Bear in mind that an audio interface can be found for not a whole lot of money and would offer better performance and flexibility particularly with the manner it can automatically manage monitoring for lowest latency while tracking, headphones and having a single easy to access volume control.
