Treble Loss Upon Playback

Hey everyone. I've been recording with an Orange Retro 50 into the Two Notes Live, then into a Motu 896. My DAW is Reaper. Because the Motu doesn't have S/PDIF, I've been using the balanced line output straight into the Motu's input (D/A converter, bypassing the built-in preamp, which I like about this old unit). When I'm tracking, I get a lot of clarity and treble. Sounds great. When I playback the recording, it is much more dull sounding and the EQ emphasis has shifted toward the low mids. This makes it really hard to get the right tones when I'm recording. I'm hoping to record the same tone that I hear coming in through the headphones as I'm playing. Thanks.

Hi dreamdistortion,

it's very unlikely that playing the recorded track changes the tone.

How are you listening when tracking, and how are you listening when playing back the track? Through the same system??
