Is the Engl Z-12 a universal midi controller?

I recently purchased an Engl Z-12 to use with my Diezel Herbert and it appears to have cause my amp to malfunction. I've used one with my Steve Morse Signature for while an liked the controller. I was told it was a standard midi controller and would work with any midi device / amp? Is that true? Or did I just kill my Diezel by trying to use it with the Z-12? Any and all help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Engl has different +/- powering conections than Diezel
