Diezel EInstein Ch.2 noisy and more muted than Ch.1 -solved-

Hi everyone,

i am new to this forum and have some questions concerning my (beloved) Einstein.

Channel 1 with all 3 Settings is o.k. but Ch.2 has a much higher noise level (Grundrauschen),

quite independant from the gain setting. Ch.2 is also much more muted than Ch.1.

Seems to me that the source of the problem is on the preamp side, since Ch.1

is perfectly o.k. and VERY loud.. :)

I read on the Diezel homepage that Valve 2 is only responsible for Ch.2,

is there a chance that replacing Valve 2 will solve the problem?

And in case that will do, what tube is recommended there and do i have to

adjust bias currents or so?

Thanks in advance for comments

Regards
Holger

P.S. If there are some o's or i's missing its my fuc... laptop, not my poor diction.... i hope

Und was heisst das 'Hack' unter dem Autor?

Dass man neu ist?

Sorry,

what does that 'Hack' mean under the Authors name?

Certainly worth a try. Ruby 12AX7 AC5 HG+ or similar high grade.
V2 is used solely by channel 2
No rebiasing required for preamp tubes.

If you have any 12ax7 that you know is good or brand new it will enable you to eliminate the tube as the source of the issue.

Unplug amp from power before swapping any tubes etc....

Thanks Graham,

one Question though:

I read some Posts below that Peter Diezel recommends a

V2: 12AX7-B High grade selection on B-side 678

Whats the Difference between the Tube you mentioned (12AX7AC)

and the tube from Peter?

Would this e.g. be o.k.:

Or can we get them somehow fom Diezel Amp. directly?

Thanks

I have no idea ref the specifics of the 678 tube, other than it is recommended by Diezel.

I used the Ruby 12AX7AC5 HG+ for years and bought them from here. This was at the time the Diezel recommendation. I have owned Einstein since 2011.

http://www.banzaimusic.com/Ruby-Tubes-1 ... -PLUS.html

Don't forget the HG+ part as this is the selection process indicating Highest grade selection from Ruby.

2015 I got some 678 from Valve Queen (USA) on Peters recommendation. Shipping was fast and trouble free.

http://store.valvequeen.com/ruby-ac5-12ax7-678-diezel-selected

I think its basically the same tube but with further selection to meet Diezel criteria above and beyond what Ruby have already done.

I have had the 678's in V1 and V2 for over 2 years now and they are great. Amp works hard, gigging most weekends. I haven't swapped them out yet because it just sounds good and I have experienced zero issues.

Hope that helps.

I was in Bad Steben and Peter did some things i didn't understand,

and its better than new. :)

Also got to know Einstein himself.

Thanks everyone, especially Peter.
