One went for €1500 (¥200,000) 2 months ago in Japan and I really feel it was overpriced. It's only a mono 100W power amp after all.
Only crazy japanese collectors would pay such a price.
I think this depends very much on the point of view. If you want SLO tone, usually you have to cope with a two channel head that has a shitty loop.
An SM100 with an X88 or Caswell will give a much more versatile rig with THAT SLO tone and no issues of applying effects in good quality.
If you look at the used prices of SLOs in Europe (±2500€) then 1500 for an SM100 is quite good actually.
I think €1500 is too much for a SM100R and I don't share your point of view at all. It's the price I paid in a shop in Luxembourg for my rackmount SLO some years ago. I wouldn't pay the same price for the power section alone as I paid for the whole amp.
You can have the SLO loop modded for about $100 by any good tech. It's not that much of an issue. I know because I did that to mine.
Anyway, I don't know where you guys get your prices, but not in the same places as mine. There's a SLO for sale in France right now and the asking price is €1500 :

Of course there is always some people buying gear at insane prices from time to time but... I would never pay €2500 for an SLO. Ever.

Anyway, for the price the guy is asking for the whole rack ($4000), I think I can find a SLO, a X99 and mod the loop to interface both together. That would be a bit more serious than a SP77/SM100 rig, don't you think ?? I know because it's exactly what I have done myself.
