It was fun.
Good to meet so many good folks.
Great to meet and talk with the amp designers!

Hope everyone enjoyed my Live Iphone feed! as of 11pm, pacific time, there were...

Total views: 793
we had around 70 people on there at points throughout the day, but in total, probably from folks in and out...about 800 people were watching (or at least logging in and out...)

By the way, if anyone wants to see what transpired, you can see the video clips saved at the ustream link above on my page.

Check them out!!

And yes...someone asked above...EVERYTHING ran through the Bogner UberKab.

All the clips sounded good...and when James is done with the videos, it's going to sound great!

It was fast and furious at the end there, but fun.

I've played through Racerevlon's HK Triamp before, so I knew exactly what to expect (it's one of the only amps to every suprise me, since the 1st time I played it, I thought it sounded great, and different than a bunch of other amps)!

Of course, the VH4 was just on the mark, as usual. James' VH4 just sounds very good. I gotta find out what tubes he's got in there...it was just thunderous!

I also enjoyed the Cameron's, and ensured what I thought to be correct, I prefer the Brown Eye to the Hairy Brown Eye on the Friedman amps.
Those who watched the live feed, at the end, saw the interviews I did with Dave Friedman and Reinhold Bogner, and how Dave was talking about the lower gain stuff just having more tone...and it's so true!

I wasn't in the room at the time, but it appeared as though my Marshall JCM800KK (Kerry King) was impressive...it was funny, when they started playing that amp, a few folks went jolting into the control room to find out what amp that was...it was pretty brutal! I thought it was kind of funny, for an amp that people don't know what to make of it...

I enjoyed playing out the the Rhodes amp as well, that guy makes a pretty crazy amp, and if he can just tighten it up on the low end (there is an amazing amount of low end), I think it could be a very cool production amp!

Now to get my Uber Twin Jet modded to Reinhold's new top secret specs, and all will be good in the world! That RED Twin Jet (not really a twin jet) sounded really huge in the studio! Very cool!

Unfortunately, there was an issue with my new Mark V, so that amp didn't get to go through it's paces. I will have to have that checked out.

All in all, it was a great and exciting day, long, but not as long as I thought it would have been...given the amount of amps, but James blew through them at breakneck speed...we were all done by like 7:45!

Thanks for participating in the Live Stream chat room as well...that was fun, and everyone enjoyed it...it was a key part of what was happening there, people kept checking it out during the day.

Cool.

Thanks guys!

A couple pics, my Ugly's in very good company

What are the "secret specs"? How do they change the sound of the TJ?

Great event. Esp. cool to meet and chat with Mr. Bogner himself (interesting tall guy btw: "where's the beer?!")

I was in the booth for several of the tests and both guitar players were very good. I was very impressed (as well as many others including James himself) with the Reeves:

http://www.reevesamps.com/super78.htm

It demonstrated excellent touch sensitivity to pick attack.

I was also impressed with the Jet City 100 watt head (used for $400). I'm an EL34 guy but that seems like a great amp for the price as long as it's reliable.

Sorry to hear your Mark V had issues, Rich. Hopefully just a tube problem...

James is a cool guy, thanks for doing the event, I'll be sure to check out the high-gain clips as I had to leave early.

So where/how do you buy a used Reeves? Are they new? Sounds like you must buy direct...

Yeah spill the beans!!

Some how I missed the H&K TriAmp. Which vid is it on?

Mr. Lugo this quite an incredible thing you've done here. People like you really help people like me that live in a small towns. We have cheesy little music stores the typically only have cheap equipment in stock. We can't really go out and demo stuff. Videos like this helps in the never ending tone quest. You rock!!!

Jim

sounds like a great time!

hey James have you experimented with panning the audio channels out just a little in FCP to give the sound more space and clarity?

I'm posting from an RV in Texas at the moment but I'd love to stop by your studio soon and bring over my modded mojave peacemaker, friedman modded and freshly retubed Egnater TOL 100, and my carol ann OD2r.

I think you'd enjoy them!

My buddy always talks shit about H&K. Calls them "Hugs&Kisses"  I've always wanted a Triamp, but then I played a used one (older version) and it was buzzy and loose as hell, but the cleans sounded great. After that I forgot about it, but after hearing it live last night I may take another look.

Thanks for making this so great James. You always go above and beyond. Can't friggin wait for vids/clips!!!

I just finished the first video, Mid Gain Central, you guys are going to freak out! So if everything stays cool with my internet all 4 videos should be up by tomorrow early. I'm gonna do 1 video per category, the vid was about 28 minutes of non-stop playing and amp dialing. The volume is pretty hot but not slammed, with no compression the amps were being dialed in as we played and volume slightly fluctuated, so I left so wiggle room. Every now and then you can here an audio click, that's Gregg adjusting gain structure on the fly while we played. This was an engineering feat, all the amps acting and reacting differently and us having never used half of them before. Gregg did a masterful job. There you go, I;m working like a madman today to make this happen. No guts, no glory!

Definitely take a look--AND... I must say that I've owned that amp for a while and had regular Ruby EL34's in it--when I installed Ruby EL34BSTR's that amp really came alive and was what you heard yesterday. The recordings focused on channel 3B but EVERY channel on that amp is usable. Also, if you don't have the $$$ for the TriAmp, DEFINITELY look at the Trilogy. I know the Trilogy didn't get much love yesterday, but I've found that Hughes & Kettner amps (at least mine) like Heritage 30's better than Vintage 30's.

Hughes & Kettner amps are great--I just think they don't get enough press in the U.S. Also, they seem to be EXTREMELY sensitive to EQ changes, so a little goes a long way. YMMV

Cheers,

Something happened to the formatting in my Final Cut and the videos came out all stretched and weird. The raw video clips themselves are fine but when I import them into Final Cut the program is stretching them and making it look wide screen with a black bar on top and bottom. I am so freakin pissed I have been at this all day. Anyway I'm gonna look for help tomorrow. If anyone out there knows Final Cut Express well and wants to help me out to fix the formatting issue contact me. The good news is the video and audio is so sick, I mean this is beyond intense. So I will get the videos up as soon as possible. The funny thing is I made the fun party videos this morning and they came out perfect, somehow I must have hit a key by accident and changed something in the preferences and man the guys on the video forums are clueless. If this was a protools issue and you posted on gearslutz you'd have the answer in 10 minutes.
