Saw Yngwie and Ethan Brosh last nite

I can listen to him in small doses, but I find most of his albums boring. That first Rising Force album is awesome though. I prefer his instrumental tunes over anything he has done with vocals. I think he has one of the best vibrato sounds in Rock. I think he comes across much better live.

I have heard Ethan Brosh, downloaded Marching into Oblivion from iTunes. That would have been a cool show seeing him and Yngwie on the same bill.

It was a good show. Yngwie's tone was amazing, with that occasional annoying high end pierce when he does high note bends.
Ethan was actually a good contrast to Yngwie, giving the show a nice balance. He favors more major arpeggios and keys, and he's more of a George Lynch-80s style. i enjoyed his set. But all credits to him, it's hard opening up for someone like Yngwie.

wow.. that only took what 8-9 posts....

amazing, people resort to 3rd grade schoolyard bullshit.

No.
Yngwie is an amazing guitarist, but an arrogant asshole. The only thing bigger than his wall of Marshalls is his ego.
He would be a great replacement for Satchel in Steel Panther if he breaks his arm. The only problem, that his stage moves and persona are not for being funny. (That's maybe a dealbreaker :) )
His Trilogy and Odessey era things were amazing, but the last 5-6 CDs, are just boring.

As if Yngwie was ever the only arrogent asshole in rock. LOL
My personal opinion is the guy, though insanely talented never really moved on. It's the same 80's metal horseshit, clothes and stage moves. 50 years old for Christ sake. Reminds me of the fat Elvis era.

I would be interested in hearing what players you feel evloved evolved? I think I can only name one and that is Jeff Beck. Clapton, Page, EVH, Frampton etc all doing pretty much exact same shit they always did.

It would be the equivelent of Clapton still dressing as he did in 1967. Page had a few different bands after Zep. At the LZ reunion, I didn't see him in his 1973 era Dragon Suit. Frampton has aged gracefully and has played many different project. EVH I can give two shits about.

As others have stated, Yngwie's shit gets old real fast. Sure he's great. He should be, he's playing the same shit he did when he came out. Seeing a 50 year old guy come out onstage in the leather viking suit, IMO is pathetic. As pathetic as the guy claiming Yngwie can play jazz

Blah blah blah... All I hear is jealousy and admiration hiding behind a wall of hate. How typical. Good day.

I'll admit it, I’ve always bashed Yngwie because he makes me feel inferior. I'm so damn jealous....just when I finally learned the first few notes of Eruption, he had to come out with his crazy playing. I told all my friends I wasn’t into that wankery, but secretly at night I would try for hours to play “Far Beyond the Sun”, inevitably giving up and switching back to AC/DC.

I even took lessons, but my teacher said I needed to keep working on my pentatonic scales (which I could do in 3 different positions I might add). Didn’t stop me from becoming a wicked good grunge player, but Yngwie’s playing just kept haunting me…the 80’s were over, why wouldn’t he go away?! And why did his hair look better than mine?

I'm commenting on music here and I don't care one bit about fashion. Everyone you mention never went past much what they're known for and what done previously -- virtually little musical growth...playing the same shit over and over...just as Yngwie Malmsteen does. Its just their style of music and comfort zones.

For me as a listener everyone seems to get old after a couple albums. I listened to little of YJM after marching out. Typically first couple of albums are the best because you hear something new...next album slight variation of album 1, 3rd album rehashing of albums 1 and 2 ;)

I never knew YJM to play jazz but I bet he could if he wanted to

I wish I could see Yngwie live. He's been my "guitar god" since '85

What's the hold up ?

I live in MT.

Have to drive 500 miles to Denver every time I want to see someone decent. I've seen Rush, Maiden and other great bands over the years. Also saw Satch at the HOB in Vegas when I was down there for a work conference. The wife and I stood 5 feet away from Satch all night and it was just awesome. But just haven't ever made it to an Yngwie show yet.

I find it quite amusing how the guys who seem to hate Yngwie the most because of his ego, come across as the biggest douches.

Sure, Yngwie has become a bit of a caricature of himself, can be quite repetitive, has always been brash, etc, etc, etc...

And yet, there he is, STILL rocking, after having set the guitar world on its ear nearly three decades ago and changing the game forever... and WHO ARE YOU exactly again, and what have YOU done besides take shots at a guy who has influenced countless players to elevate their game???

Who's truly "pathetic" in this thread?

all opinion based but Hendrix/EVH/RR and Yngwie where game changers....there hasn't been one since Yngwie.

Oh and Yngwie is not fat and on coke anymore. he's also not as big of an ego dick as he used to be. I don't care about anything else other than the guys playing. He never was a dick to me ;)

Could not agree more.

Sorry I gotta jump in here..Yngwie is a SUPREMELY talented musician, period. He SINGLEHANDEDLY started, with Randy, the ABSOLUTE OBSESSION with infusing classical style into virtuoso rock guitar..Paul Gilbert is one who credits YJM as an influence. He doesn't comment on YJMs personality..he just knows, as most people who attempt to play this instrument, that YJM is a freak talent when it comes to playing guitar. I've met George Lynch, Paul Gilbert, Ty Tabor, and a few other players who are genuinely nice guys. If I ever met YJM I would comment on how he was..a dick, nice guy, etc. But even if he was an ass it still doesn't take away the fact that he's an amazing player. I'd love to see him live....

I saw him At Revolution Live in FT. Lauderdale in 2011, he totally killed and of course loud as hell. Had 36 freaking heads both vintage and YJM Sigs and 18 cabs. He ran out of two YJM heads that he had on the end of his stacks in to two 4x12's . Ripper Owens was singing for him also. All around Killer show. It was the last date on the tour too, so he unloaded his Ferrari Red Bus (go figure) and all the all the Marshall's and cabinets and loaded them up stacked three high across the back of a U Haul truck. Not a single head was a dummy either they all had tubes in them. After the Truck was loaded up he came out with his wife and got in his Ferrari 360 threw his guitar in the passenger seat and his wife got in a Mercedes SL and with a Police escort they all drove off. Only in Miami !! Pretty damn cool all around.

Here is his Ferrari with the U-haul and Red Prevost in the background.

Going to See him again May 26th in Ft. Lauderdale.

That's awesome. Love Yngwie.

I'm not a big fan of his Music but he is an Amazing Guitarist IMO.

I saw a Video of him at 18 , 19 years of age and he was already an Amazing Guitarist IMO..

I actually preferred that style musically, but that's just me.

I'm glad he's made a lot of money and he has a niche musically, and is a true Virtuoso, much like a Classical Violinist.

His Bach stuff is.very.very cool.

I find his Ego and Honesty refreshing, he doesn't pretend to be Humble.

Whether you like him or his music or not the Guy is flat out absolutely Great at what he does.

Icon.
