Wizard MCII vs Morris Perplex'd

Wondering if anyone has had both of these side by side and can share their similarities and differences? Would be looking for comparisons of like wattages. Thanks!
 
I recently just sold a Perplex'd S3 and I've owned 6 Wizards with the the current being a 2015 MCII that I had side by side. The Perplex'd is a great amp but it's no Wizard...not as raw, open, and won't punch anywhere near as hard. The Morris has way more gain on tap and a different voicing/eq..not better/not worse...just different. Morris is open and raw but not near the Wizard's raw uncompressed nature. The Perplex'd has much more low end available but it's a deeper rounder low end vs the MCII's sharp, tight low end.

I'd put the Perplex'd in my top 5 though...killer amp!

Wizard amps get a lot of love here and they are more well known, so I'm going to guess that will be the direction most guys steer you. I know this isn't what you asked about, but since you're considering a Morris vs an MC II, I would take a hard look at the Morris XSIII rather than the Perplex'd. The XSIII is going to have amazing punch and clarity/note separation, and it will be super tight on the bottom end as well. The Perplex'd is great too, but the XSIII would be the amp that would be more comparable to the MC II.

I've not tried a Morris in person, but this sounds very accurate based on the clips I've heard of the Perplex'd. In the clips it sounds to me basically like a filtered/not as organic sounding Plexi/superlead with higher gain and maybe a little deeper low end. There was one clip where it was AB'ed with a Plexi it just didn't have in the clip the organic, 3D quality of the real deal. I immediately heard the filtered sound and every time I've tried these things in person it just is more pronounced
 
There's also the Morris SIRROM (not on his site). Glen said it's his more "metal" amp.

I've played a Vintage Classic, and it is a great NMV amp...but like all Wizards the mids are just a little different compared to my 72 Trem. All Wizards have a little HiWatt to them and some like that combination, others (like me) prefer the real deal vintage Marshall.
But make no mistake, any Wizard is going to be a great amp with unmatched clarity and push. For the 4-5K you have to ask yourself; do you want to search out a real vintage Marshall or grab a newish Wizard?
I've never played a Germino but if I were in the market for a good Marshall clone build I'd definitely put one at the top of my list, from what I've heard from guys I trust.
 
Asking cause there is a 50 watter for 1800 on reverb.
 
I just received a Morris '69/70 Muscle. This is based off of a old Marshall tremolo. I've heard this amp described as the single channel version of the Perplex'd, however when talking w/ Glen Morris he stated the '69/70 is more raw than the Perplexed. I've only played the '69/70 at low volumes and have not had a chance to play this in a band setting yet so can't give a full review yet. I will tell you that when I was looking for a raw, open, punchy amp w/ full Marshall character. Obviously Marshall was at the top of my list as well as Wizard. I also wanted the ability to play at low volumes. I know from personal experience Wizard excels at this and covered the open, raw and punch. Ruled out Marshall, at this time, due to price point and manageable volume issue (I didn't jive w/ power station attenuator). Now I 've only played this at home and at low volumes so this review doesn't carry much weight, but so far it has surpassed my expectations. Probably the best master volume I've ever used. Once I get a new amp I automatically characterize the amp as a Marshall w/ a mix of this or that... This just sounds like a vintage Marshall w/ more gain on tap and a great master volume. Looking forward to trying this in a band contexts.

Damn. Buy the thing. Then resell it if it isn't for you. I think 50 watt is perfect for nmv. Though I think it has a master on the back. I bet that amp is awesome. I was thinking that would be the only wizard I would add to mine. Mine is his version of the jcm. Getting his version of a plexi would be nice.

Your comment about the Morris master made me realize I failed to mention the master and how good the Perplex'd sounded at low volumes.

J-Dub owned one, I played it a bunch and that was the most awesome frightening thing I’ve ever heard. Insane power and volume. That’s the amp that planted the seed, I ended up with my MC25 years later.

The Germino hits the sweet spot easier, the Wizard was completely balls to the wall. Different animals
 
Also meant to ask how the boost works on Wizards. Does it add both volume and gain? If so, is there any way to adjust either or is it preset?

One realization I've had, is that if you are looking at a NMV amp buy one WITHOUT a master like the amp was intended. I've tried SOO many early/mid 70s Marshalls and they were meh to me; but they all had that added master..my 72 Tremolo is the first one totally stock...and it is goddamn incredible tone that shits on EVERYTHING I've ever owned, modded Marshall or Wizard or whatever. Those others are also great but in the room, that 72 is the voice of GOD if he owned an amp. If you like or value a good Marshall tone I'd highly recommend looking at a bone stock NMV Marshall, vintage or newer...if you can handle the extreme volume the reward is amazing.

I agree. I haven't tried one. But if I ordered one from rick, I would order without the master and without all the other stuff like line out. I like really simple. I don't even use the loop on my wizard now. Just a boost straight in.
