I'll start...Peavey Supreme 160. Throw a BBE Sonic Maximizer in the loop and this thing is metal beast for stuff like Pantera, or whatever metal you want that tight sound for. Really good, loud PV clean tones and a decent reverb. A lot of onboard EQ options. I played one for like 3 years when I was young and it can keep up with any band...There is one for sale a street over for $100, I might buy it..

Another one..Peavey XXL. It doesn't roar quite like the XXX but still, it can get some badass rock/metal tones on the dirt cheap. I see these going $150-200 still.

Peavey Windsor. Now it's not a metal amp in itself but as it's basically a JMP and JCM 800 Clone inspired so slap a boost in front of it and it rips. Can be had for 300-400 bucks if you're patient.

Peavey Ultra Plus/ Triple XXX

I concur. I've got an Ultra 120 and an Ultra Plus and I've used both in bands and they really are great, not even just 'for the price'. They can do a lot for a little money.

I've had or have a Vypyr, 5150/II, Bravo, VTM, Ultra/Plus, JSX and they are so good, especially for the money. The Vypyr I had wasn't quite loud enough for the drummer I was playing with (it was the iii, SS not-tube one) but it sounded really good. The emulated amps sounded solid. I'm definitely a Peavey fan. Their older stuff was the sound I wanted. I haven't tried the Supreme or Windsor though I'd really like to!

I don't know how cheap it's considered but I've seen a couple locally for fairly low prices (~$500 when pretty used) but I really enjoy the Orange TH30. Gets a fat, mean sound and I like what it does. I had a Jim Root. It was pretty cool too though I traded it towards a Vox a friend had me convinced I wanted.

I see Peaveys all the time. Usually a Bandit or Valve King around $100-200. Sometimes an ultra series pops up at a good price. The Peavey Transformer 112 or 212 rarely gets talked about. It's the amp that lead to Vypyr series.

The Ibanez Tone Blaster is a decent amp on the cheap.

There is a Raven head which is completely off the radar. Could be a diamond in the rough.

I'll add the VTM, as well. Though that one is starting to get popular.

Laney stuff is underrated for metal as well, esp the AOR series for hair/glam/shred. Before the world went crazy you could buy or sell them for 3-400$.

The mark I Hughes and Kettner triamp is absolutely criminally underrated and I've seen them go for 500-600$. I prefer it by far to the new ones.

It was good as well. Bought it off Jerry FJA mods. He tricked it out.

Really was not expensive. Not sure current prices. Raven was decent. But could not get loud enough with my drummer bashing away. Haha

$100

EXH Metal Muff.

Cheap and people have settings for stuff online. Look them up, use them and you have probably the best budget metal pedal of all time.

I sold mine though because I ended up with amps that do it.

I'd recommend it though. Top boost is great.

Peavey Triumph -> Peavey Ultra -> Peavey Ultra Plus -> Peavey Triple XXX -> Peavey 3120

This whole family tree of amps is great and can often be found for cheap money.

Peavey Butcher -> Peavey VTM - Peavey 5150/5150II -> Peavey 6505/6505+

Also great amps, although the 5150 prices have become unreasonable lately.
