I am in the same boat. I have 3 higher end pieces coming in I have been waiting on for 6-11 months depending on the item. I also have not had the urge to pay inflated prices. I got the stuff I like, got rid of the rest. I have been less inclined to buy something to try out and sell again given the rise in prices.

I would love an old 2203 again, but I'm not paying 3k for a beat to shit 2203. I have more than enough other similar amps that were less money to satiate that need. I have to assume other people feel the same way to an extent. I also have been playing more instead of collecting and testing and it's obviously for the best. If there is a good deal (rare these days), I'm in, but the barrier to testing is just too high now.
 
Everybody must be broke...yeah, after the cost of gear these days! I'm in the hole but that hasn't slowed me down lol
 
As painful as it's been, some of the things I've been splurging on lately was done because of the fear that they're going to cost even more in the near future.

Yeah I think there's a lot of us who refuse to pay severely inflated prices for gear we don't HAVE to have. I won't be that guy who will pay anything just get what I want.

I was tempted and one point to sell some of my amps because the prices were so high. But I just don't want to get rid of what I have. And I know I'll regret it later on. So I've pretty much just been on standby for a long time. Amp building has take a lot of the need to buy new gear out of my system. I've dumped unruly amounts of money into that instead.
 
I'm buying if it's a decent deal but prices are just stupid right now. Not just on gear either.

I dumped whatever it took to get my customs before student loans are legally required to be paid on again. I have the equity and the means but a shortened timeline. But otherwise I agree ☝️

Alot is higher prices, I agree. However, it sucks even more now as a buyer. (A) You almost have to overpay to get something you want, (plus tax, if it applies), & (B), many sellers expect you to pay their fees, or expect PayPal F/F, etc. Sorry, but I'm not going F/F on higher ticket items, unless I REALLY know its someone I trust.

Most of these prices had to come down eventually. Pretty soon we will be able to get whatever we are looking for relatively cheap

I saw that VTM and about choked. Somebody listed a Marshall 8100 Valvestate head for over $1,000.

We definitely alike . I just enjoy what I got while I wait . And yes a rare deal comes I’ll take it .I totally get it .

I didn’t qualify for anything stimulus and did not get child tax credits.

I fear for the ones who got the child tax credits not realizing they will owe that back come tax time. I had friends at work doing everything they can in their power to opt out of the child tax credits because we get fucked enough come tax time as it is.

I will owe taxes this year more than ever. Worked a lot of overtime and jumped a tax bracket by accident. I made donations to lots of dog shelters last year to write off but it won’t be enough.

Gotta find stuff to lower that AGI… hopefully you didn’t enter into those two brackets that jump a lot ?. Granted only the portion above will be taxed at the higher bracket, but still, it sucks paying ANY taxes.

I'm thinking like Red Plated. The rare deals do pop up . Some used prices are gouging. Walking away from something you want can be hard.
 
I gave away all of my stimulus money to folks i knew who were in need due to the pandemic
So i know first hand some very broke people. I have a friend who will not get vaxed And as a result he can’t get any work as a bartender or any other job in a restaurant I’ve also given him money.
What a fucked up time this is.

Interest on the house and student loans used to cover it but hell not even that puts a dent in it anymore. To itemize you have to have over 12k worth and I rarely have that much to overcome the standard deduction. The government has really done all they can to fuck the middle class
 
My wife cut me off from selling gear last spring. She said the rest of it was too valuable, unique, rare or vintage to sell of at "I don't feel like packing it!" pricing.

Yes, she is the only like that I've ever met, and yes anyone who's met my wife can't believe how lucky I got.
 
It's real simple dudes.

Supply vs Demand. There is a limited/no supply, therefore demand goes up and up with the pricing. Guitar Center is a good gauge of this; I peruse their used site daily.
This hasn't changed; or got better: Any used gear that is priced at pre-Covid prices is GONE within a very short time. Like in less than an hour. Latest one was a 1971 JMP 50 for 3600; looked clean but no shot of the transformers/circuit to know if it was stock. Gone in 45 minutes. That amp will be placed on Reverb for 5K in my estimation.
My guess is there are a number of gear flippers out there that are keeping the market jacked. Most people are keeping their gear longer and for that reason the normal used sites are just not being flooded with decent used gear, which would cause prices to drop. The flippers wouldn't be able to keep up with a higher amount of guys wanting to 'fire sale' their stuff at a GC or Music go Round.

This same phenomenon is happening with Cars; no new supply so everyone is continuing to put more miles on their well used vehicles. What I paid for my SUV in 2013; it's worth the same today! Crazy. Same with my car..

No kidding. My car went up in value. Had to trade in my Challenger 3 years ago for something more practical for travel and seeing customers. I paid $25,000 for the car I have now 3 years ago. Today, its worth almost $35,000. Used car sales are up 40% because there's less chips to build new cars. Crazy. Now, used are worth more. Thought about trading it in, but then you overpay for new, or even used.
 
LOL @ used car prices costing more than new. Good luck with that.

Endless supply of flat screen tv's and Apple iPads but can't make chips for cars? :LOL:

yeah im glad i got my truck right before it got super whacky, i searched for a year for that thing and paid a little more than what it was worth then, now it being 4cyliner especially i could probablly make profit
