I'm sure there's a better reason than "I'm a dumbass for asking", or "Mesa sucks".

Snarky comments welcome. Let it all hang out.

You guys and gals are awesome.

Now it’s up to Gibson, not Mesa. Besides, all it’d be is countless variations of guys asking why the new Mesas don’t sound as good as the old ones. I’m sure Mesa’s customer service phone reps have heard enough of that to preclude them from ever having their own official forum. There’s the Boogie Board (unofficial) which is an excellent resource for all Boogies, new and old anyway.

Because no one from Gibson will be monitoring it, and for that reason, it can be discussed in the rig talk forum.

Besides as said earlier, Mesa has an entire forum dedicated to it elsewhere.

Those subforums were originally designed for the little guy (small builders) as a place to get answers to specific questions. Originally, part of the deal was that you (small builder) would then also need to monitor that subform and answer questions. I don't think any of that is happening any more but I know Dave Friedman and Bruce Egnater were active at one point, for example.

Dave’s still around, just not as often as he once was.

most mesa floating around need basic service.... thats why i'm still alarmed at the going rate of the III's. most of them need $150 in parts plus a steady, knowlegeable hand inside to get them to where they should be. but they're worth it, cuz they're the best!!!

Also why there was never a Splawn subforum before. Scott Splawn doesn't participate in forum'ing

Like the Carol Ann dude Alan that required permission to post in his sub forum. He‘s an example of somebody that should’ve just stuck to building amps and had a PR person answering question. He has a good way of making you feel like you’re not worthy of owning his amps, I say that based on a half dozen phone conversations with him when I was geeking on my OD2 and OD3r.....

Because Mesa’s are for guys that don’t like Lilliputian pea shooter Wizard MC25’s ????

Hope you’re well Terry ?????
Har!! :ROFLMAO: good one!

Also because old decrepit fossils like myself are more deaf these days.

The attenuators/power soaks are permanently fixed between our ears now. We don't need hearing protection because what's left isn't worth the bother.

You know you're deaf when you can feel the sound as much as hear it.

Must also be why those cold, sterile, vintage Marks of yesteryear sound better these days, and why I prefer a loud floor monitor now over inner-ears.

Still happy as hell with that Laurel Canyon you traded me, and thank you!

Still......nothing cuts thru the mix like a Wizard.

Wow...never knew that.

Never got to try a CA. Haven't seen many for sale though. Curious what the Alan/Mike Zaite collaboration amp sounds like.

VHT KT88 Pitbull Ultra, and Splawn Quickrod on my bucket list.

Cause they are the original overpriced amp and still are
Well.....hard to believe what they're asking for Vintage Mesa Marks ATM.

The last one I bought was in 2018, a MKIV Rev A EV powered combo for a grand and pennies. Same age and close to serial number as my number 1 I bought back in 1992, and still have. Can't seem to touch them now for over $2K, and they're often beat to $h!t.

Really curious to see how Mesa does under Gibson ownership. Hope they don't repeat their past.

Had the JP2C and didn't care for it. Was not expecting it to sound like something else. But even though I didn't think it was a bad sounding amp, it just didn't have the presence and cut-thur-the-mix no matter where I set the controls, or speaker configuration. Surprising and disappointing at the same time. I even tried a quad of Mesa STR 415's from my personal stash. I could just not get out of it what I wanted to hear.......oh well.

I really hope I'm wrong on this, but my gut tells me Mesa's best days are past them not to return.

I don't think Rick ever comes into the Wizard threads either. Not that I can find. But then Rick told me in a email he's not into social media stuff much. I know he will not do pod casts as a guest like they have on Tone Talk. I see some posts on his FB page. Don't know if it's him posting though as Wizard Amps.

The mark IVa is going to be the next C+ in terms of going to the moon on resale price. They're already starting to. The early IV, is still the best balance between the IIC+/III "organic" tone, but still being able to dial in a modern tone, and having footswitching capability over everything that really needs it. Anything that goes wrong on them can still be fixed pretty easily. i know people get so scarred of the IV when it comes to teching it, but its really NOT THAT BAD. its just A BIT cramped in there. nothing lilke modern mesa which speak for themselves in terms of over complexity. mesa "Best days being behind them" was already there. they don't like to rehash their past classics like marshall, vox, fender, etc. even the mark I reissue was pretty much a mark III chassis and cabinet with a different board, and back pannel. the jp-2c is probably a fantastic amp, but it ain't a c+ reissue, we all know this.

He posts on FB, but mostly just having to do with his amps, bands using his amps, his dogs and golf/driving range
