I have a cheapo guitar i want to experiment with filing the fret ends. This thing is literally shredding the side of my index finger lol whats some good tools/processes to start with. I dont expect to do a good job lol just wanna make this thing a little less dangerous haha

You just need a flat file. Protect the fret tops and fretboard. One slip can cause lots of fret polishing/fixing. You can feel the metal as you're filing. When you get close to the wood you will feel it and hear it. Just go slow. You will need to soften the fret ends after filing down the fret sprout. They might feel just as sharp until you do that. Lots of Dan Erlewine and others videos on it. I like Dan tho.

I should have said filing down the fret sprout just requires a flat file. Getting the fret ends right after that is a whole nuther story. But that's all covered in the videos. I bought a special tool for fret ends and use that plus microfiber pads of several different gages to get the fret ends rounded and polished and roll the edges a tiny bit more.

Anyone know what the heck to use for filing SS Fret ends?
Nickel much easier, but dang, SS frets are hard.
