Hey…we want what we want right?
Been thinking more and more about these….thinking of pulling the trigger.

Who has one and loves it or hates it ? Anybody?

I saw one sitting at a studio when I went to master my album. I didn't play it though, because I paid by the hour. My curiosity is pretty unbearable. The owner was a big 5150 guy, and raved about it. I really want to check one out.

Shit, I say go for it. Worst thing is you don't like it and send it back. Best case, you have an affordable amp that kicks ass!

Someone over on the Marshall forum really digs it; I’ll see if I can find the thread. Says it’s more modded Marshall than any other EVH. But you have to play it through a decent cab as the matching one isn’t the best.

That's pretty much how i hear it from the clips posted of it. If I didn't have all my favorite Marshalls 68, 72, 79....... I'd consider it..... the old I need another amp like I need a hole in my head is the phrase of the day.....:p

But alas... I've owned a 6505 before and it did not compete in my stable of amps so the Iconic may not as well.......:dunno: But I do like it more than what I hear in a 5150, 5153 or 6505.

Iconic with a Boss Waza Tube Amp Expander kicks ass!!

Try one out. Can’t be beat for the coin. I picked one up. Love it. Is it my favorite or best amp nope. Is it good. Yep.
The green channel is where I like it. Noise gate descent. Boost needed. Depends on your style if playing.
I had a 100! Stealth. Couldn’t wait to unload it.
Red channel useless if gain past 3. Blue channel good. Clean ?‍♂️
And noisy AF.
As stated. Try it out. YMMV.

I’ve owned the EVH50 6L6 twice and the EVH Stealth 50 once. Couldn’t bond with either. The Iconic is a totally different amp. My other guitarist brought one into our jam room yesterday. Reminded me of a more refined 6505 without the sterile nature of the EVH’s.

I had one and returned it. I much prefer my 50 watt 5150 III 6L6.

yeah I saw a video on youtube with a guy comparing 6505/5153 and Iconic ... I thought the Iconic sounded best out of the 3 ... I loved my 5153 so was impressed that the iconic sounded better at least in the vid

I wouldn't make decisions on amps based on YouTube video's because most do not do the amps justice regardless of model . I have been absolutely stunned how video's of the same amp can sound so different from each other .

I think the 5150 Iconic 40 watt combo sounds absolutely killer when I tried it at Guitar center but if I was basing my decision on YouTube video's I would of probably stayed clear of it.

pulled the trigger... GC had a brand new Combo...got the 15% off memorial deal.

so far so good. articulate and clean gain with volume. liking the green channel quite a bit. speaker is new, so it's a little stiff but meh...i'll break it down with a little play.

Good choice! I tried one of these out for the first time yesterday. Was passing time and figured why not. It definitely seems to not have that weird mid sound that the 5153 has, which is a good thing for my personal tastes. I too found myself liking the green channel w/ the overdrive engaged, gain between 2-3 o’clock.

If you wanted that same sound, but just slightly goosed up a little, then channel 2 without the burn engaged and gain around 50% was a good balance between the two channels to go from “nice”, to “oh, that’s cool” without things being too much.

I honestly thought it did the high crunch sounds better than the typical 5150 high gain thing. When I tried to do the brutal stuff with the gain being up and burn switch engaged, I thought it was lacking a little. But with some more time I probably could have gotten it to where I would expect it.

The foot switch was still packed up so I didn’t feel like taking it out of the plastic just to test the boost function. So I’m still not really sure what it boosts. Is it gain? Mids? Volume?

And I hear a lot of disappointment around the sound of the clean channel, but I thought it sounded just fine. Nothing wrong with it and perfectly useful and doesn’t get gainy unless you wanted it to.
