What amp would you pick?

You know, the correct answer is both.

Buy a Marshall.
Buy a Rectifier.
Play both at the same time.
Ejaculate.
Yep. This right here is probably the golden recipe for me.

I have to say that yes, the C Recto that I have sounds amazing with either of my Marshalls with my ABY pedal.
GREAT combo.

...again proving that clips are a fucking joke. I've played many DSLs at backline gigs 20+ yrs ago...they are decent Marshalls sure but they can't even compare in the room, at all, to a vintage NMV Marshall + a pedal or two. Kinda like a 2203 eats any DSL, a vintage stock Superlead eats a 2203.
Clips I think can be great IF done right, but with electric guitar gear that’s like finding the needle in the haystack. There are many problems with Segeborn’s clip there and the way he does comparisons (besides them not at all being apples to apples comparisons)

why are clips a joke?? he has a mic on the cone the same way we would record an album or mic up live. im not saying the dsl is the greatest thing ever or gonna smoke some old marshall, but i know in my house full of amps it more than holds its own and covers lots of ground, and like johan says impressive for the price. maybe you should try one again if your only experience is over 20 years ago on a backline, its worth it for $500

If you're gonna compare a NMV Marshall to any other amp, do it at volume. That's where the giant power sections show their true nature. For that you really have to be in the room to experience it. Like people that bash on Wizard clips; unless you hear one in person you won't get it.

what exactly are the many problems?? hes using the guitar with the same cab and mic.

See my above post. ^^^^

I understand clips are the only way one can get a vibe on an amp. That said, you just don't get the real picture of many amps based on a clip. You can't interpret how important the power section is, in a clip. That's HUGE when it comes to many amps that use giant sounding power sections for the experience. SLO, Wizards, Coliseums, NMV Marshalls....a clip won't demonstrate that at all. You can dial in any amp to sound like another, in most clips. Feel is another thing that obviously won't translate.
BTW I don't need to try another DSL hahaha....they are decent amps, not ripping on them at all but in NO WAY do they compare to a good 2203, let alone a good vintage Superlead. I've played them all and it's not even close.

People don't understand that he is using a 4 x 12 with vintage greenbacks powered by the dsl combo. Of course if you compare a little dsl combo to a 100 watt head .....the 100 watt will eat it. But if you put both into the same cab.....the playing field evens out!!

Just proves that tone comes from mainly speakers and cab and FINGERS

So you're suggesting the DSL Combo can equal the NMV Marshall when you put each into an identical 4x12?

Ya ok.

Here's a breakthrough.....

Sell your 6505, just get the mini. Through a 412 they sound the same!
Sell your EVH 5153 100w..get the lunchbox. Through a 412 they sound the same!
I'm gonna sell my 1972 Superlead....and get a DSL20. Through a 412 they sound the same!

Remember, we learned long ago that all 20w amps sound the same as 100w amps. I'd forgotten that FACT.

Exactly

Jon Levin gets some great tones with his DSL and tubescreamer. Here's George playing through his DSL's live.

I've heard some modded DSLs that sound killer...not sure what they did, maybe a different OT plus some pre mods....
If I had to sell a bunch of stuff for some reason, including my 72 I'd probably pick up a DSL 100H or HR...I've played them at a GC and they sound nice.
But, eventually I'd search out another NMV 70-75 Marshall.

My brother had a DSL and I felt it was pretty tubby on the low end but I can't find anything wrong with what I am hearing here. Granted I didn't spend any time with the DSL he had.

I have both the lunchbox peavey 5150 and the big boy real deal and I can definitely without a doubt tell you they do not sound the same ??

They're very loud no doubt and impractical for many guy's needs because of that. I've tried and owned SO many vintage Marshall's (Racerxrated has been through even more) and IME (he'd tell you the same) the only ones that didn't sound at least very good (better than the majority of recent made amps) just needed servicing from a tech (nothing too serious) and then the sound we expect was there. For lower volumes, a lot of the modded ones can actually be excellent there and some 2203/4's here and there (like my last JMP I owned) have more gradual volume tapers. Boost those ones and you can get some decent tones at volumes that won't break the ears. For me at least, I've not heard any valid substitute yet for that tone other than vintage Marshall's, but I guess it can depend what exactly ones wants in the Marshall tone or how picky they are
I’m weird af . My fav Marshall tone is a jmp 2203 with volume on 2 and all the other knobs on 10 . It’s like this pure acdc crunch before real break up . I love that

Nothing weird about that. Volume on 2 though doesn't really mean much though since those amps can vary so much on the volume taper. On some that would be loud, but on the last jmp2203 that would be pretty quiet still. Fwiw, I think the my 1972 Superlead 100 (and other nvm's) gets more of an AC/DC sound than any 2203/4 I've tried, but I don't care for that sound anyway (their sound generally lacked growl on chords for my taste), so for me doesn't matter
