There are some very good people in this community. I believe their possible participation and contributions are suppressed by the vile elements that continue to cast division and discord wherever they can. For no good purpose.
This thread really gave me (still does) hope that maybe, just maybe......folks could have one peaceful thread. For just one day. Just one! IMPOSSIBLE!!

The problem I see is the spill-over from comments in other threads. I think if people will stop with the garbage everywhere this place can get cleaned up… remember that next time the temptation is there to respond with a Trump or MAGA gif/pic or thread… yeah I know it takes two to tango but we all have to start somewhere if we want the garbage poasting and comments to stop.
And it will probably never stop but we can minimize it if we ALL try.
If Donnie would have stayed gone it would’ve never got to this. The lure to OT was the Freedom of speech. Yes people would go off at times but no one was ever hurt over it. Thank for turning this place into an under rated TGP. 1/2 you guys got sick of TGP for the things they were doing. So you come her and wanna turn it into the same thing

Yes you and I have kept it civil. I don’t think we agree on things, but we have been civil imo.
In my opinion that is because neither of us have gone ad hominem on each other. So when we do disagree or end up in a dispute, we have enough “gas” in the relationship to allow us to give one another some grace and/or space without driving straight over the cliff.
That is the problem with rationalizing/justifying “retaliation”. Every ad hominem attack/retaliation takes some “gas” out of a relationship. You retaliate, they retaliate, you retaliate, and so on and so on. Everyone feels justified in their own behavior. Pretty quickly there is no “gas” left in the tank.
Eventually the relationship is frayed and every slight be it real or perceived results in over the top or even child like reactions.
At that point communication breaks down. Interaction normalizes to petty bickering and ad hominem attacks.
The question you posed “Can we debate like adults…” requires communication. If people remain in the posture of bickering and ad homonem attacks/retaliation and refuse to let things go then there is not communication. Without communication there are no ”adult debates”.
We are only human. We all make missteps and mistakes. We all do it sometimes. But for some here the toxicity is more the norm than the exception.
Hell I did it a couple of weeks ago. @Bagel and Creamcheese said something I read a certain way and I went at him ad hominem. Which I rarely do. Pretty quickly realized I was “off the reservation” on it. So I apologized to him. Sincerely and unironically.
We just have to resist our petty instincts. If we fuck up, pick ourselves up, get back on the wagon, and try harder.
Does that make sense?

I take no pleasure in the things I did today. Some people are not only incorrigible antagonists, they are truly selfish people who care about nothing but themselves.
They don't have the right to ruin things for everyone else.
Certain people have been given the benefit of the doubt for a long time. They refuse to compromise in their behavior or even consider the nature of it.

There's still freedom of speech. People are just sick of constant attacks and childish behavior. We can all still discuss any topic we want. I don't even mind the attacks. What I do mind is when there are 40 back and forth attacks in a row in every thread that I have to read until someone finally posts something that's actually on topic again. It's fatiguing reading all of that off topic shit that's posted for basically no reason.

Why don't we give @Stripped Rights the benefit of the doubt. He might decide to change it. Maybe not. Maybe if we stay off his case about it he'd feel different about it all.

Well, I think it can be done... I know that one side hear seems to take they're frustrations out on the other but if @Stripped Rights and other targets will not respond and do the same thing... I think people will eventually get tired of it and we can get down to that 90/10% shitpoasting ratio the majority of us want. Someone has to be the bigger person.
Take me for example look at all the shit that gets said about me and TGP. Imagine if I replied every time to the half-truths and other nonsense? There/s really know point, I've tried apologizing and more and it does no good.. People are going to think and believe what they want and there is nothing I can do about it. So I decided, I value good discussions about gear and other stuff and entertaining people with tomfoolery, grabass and stupidity so that's what I'm going to do... if someone tries to bring up the other guess what... chicken but that's wat and I hope SR, Donnie and others will do the same...
No, I'm not saying vile things that Donnie and others have said are okay... but what made them say that? do to wrongs make a wright. Know they don't and I'm not taking sides and I'm not perfect, I'm only hoping to make people think and again get the shitpoasting down to a manageable level we all can enjoy.
We can do and be better... I know we all can!
