NGD! Rare preamp content…..Morin....

Picked up one of 18 out there, Morin Preamp a couple weeks back in a trade with Ampaddict (Todd Duane), who is great to deal with btw. It’s killer and a Morin was on my dwindling list of things to try. My mini rack has an HH power amp, great for WDW but not so much for a preamp. Kinda flat. So, as I searched for a tube power amp I found a Peavey 60/60. It was under 200$ as it had one bad channel. Got the 60 yesterday; all it needed was a good deoxit bath. Lots of dust etc. Cleaned the jacks and tube sockets etc. As a bonus the original tubes, super sixes, are Sylvania 6L6GC and the pre are Chinese 8th gen. After cleaning it, the rig has that 3D bloom that you get with those Sylvanias.

Nice! My first ever tube amp setup was a Peavey Rockmaster preamp paired with a mono Peavey 60 classic series power amp. While it's no Strategy 400 or 2150, those old Peavey power amps more than hold their own against mid level power amps like the Mesa 50/50, etc.

Believe me, I was pleasantly surprised when I was able to get both channels running well by simply cleaning it out; and even more pleasantly surprised when I turned it up and there was that 3D bloom that I recognized as identical to my old C+s with the 415s.
Those Sylvanias are amazing tubes.

Yeah I’d like to hear this modded amp for sure. How many were made? Dozen?
Would also love to hear the morin pre- with different power amps. I understand each preamp sounded a little different; true?
I was going to get one of Oleg’s morin reproductions BUT I gambled once out of russia and won with the superlead; I suspect my luck would run out at some point.

I think 18 were made. Some are lower gain but this one’s a fire breather.

As far as my morin Marshall, this particular mod that mike did known as the head from hell mod, there are less than 10 I believe is what mike told me. It was the most aggressive mod he did he stated to me. Incredible amp. It’ll go to the grave with me.

The custom 1/2 aldrich I’ve got was a forum members amp that passed away. It literally went to the grave with him before I grabbed it from Dave who was only helping to facilitate correct value of the gear for free for the family.

There are some amps that are total fire breathers and I get it. This aldrich isn’t as versatile as others but it screams brutal Marshall.

Much congrats on the badass super rare preamp! I know you said before elsewhere on the forum you were keeping your eye out for one.

Excited for clips! I’d actually love to see a comparison of the Morin modded Marshall from VES and your preamp too because they’re both so rare. It would be cool to see the different flavors.

That was from Hollywood I believe.

@psychodave would know for sure as they were really good friends. It’s actually a sad story for those that do know. I won’t be parting with this amp. Other members have begged Nick to make more copies of it.
