I wonder where the stereotype of Polish people being stupid came from. I've never seen a good explanation. Out of all these sorts of ethnic stereotypes, Poles being dumb seems to be one that has the least basis in reality. If you look at historical contributions of Polish scientists, artists/musicians, intellectuals, etc, it's a pretty solid list. They were part of the German Empire for a long time, it's where Prussia was located.
Poles I've known usually seemed to be funny, cocky and very witty.

I suspect that at some point in history , some guy had a gripe with a Polish dude and created the first few jokes. It mushroomed from that and with no huge outcry from the Polish community, it thrived. JMO
