Hell man the AI was wrong no surprise, I was the one who thought it was 95 and was wrong, but very happy to get/learn accurate info!
Yes and I too learned some things...The real Charvel people are here, and I don't claim to be one of them, more a guy who has one of everything (not quite)... Obviously I like mine or I'd sell.....I acquired mine in trade, one that worked out very well in my favor. Previously I had a MIJ 375 in Desert Crackle that I lost in a pawn shop......The shop pulled it the day my ticket expired and wouldn't renegotiate...I showed up very soon after..I paid dirt for it and I wasn't gonna pay their price.
I missed the guitar though and when the Fender made USA San Dimas came along the void was filled.

So am I to understand that it was just 94/95/96 that the Japan owned Charvel built only 24 fret models in the US?

Which is why you shouldn't use AI as an accurate source of information. It's like quoting wikipedia

It's worse. Generally, wikipedia is vetted and requires primary sources to back up information.

AI is a great tool, but like I've noted before, about 20% of what I get out of it for professional applications (low level applications) is correct. That's great. Saves me a ton of time, but it's worthless without someone knowing what they're looking at.

I did not know there were Charvel's made in the US after 86 and before Fender bought them.....
Wiki doesn't mention it but an AI generated response told me USA production restarted in 96....
I'm not saying yours isn't USA 1995 ....just saying.....
Cut and paste of AI ...

As already noted, AI is incorrect on specifics. However, I'd note that you can tell those by their headstocks that I don't recall before or after in the line. Once they were bought by Fender, they could use the actual strat-headstock design again.

I recall playing several of those mid-90s Charvels and they were nice.

Didn't Charvel have a US produced surfcaster too? Those always looked cool and were so different from anything else they made that I wanted one just for the hell of it.

Right on man, glad you found one you dig that fills that void, it's all good man we're all just having fun here.... There's really not a lot of info out there about them, pretty obscure guitars....last page of the 95 USA San Dimas line catalog...made in the USA at the Charvel-Jackson custom shop. Definitely neat to learn something new about a guitar I love that's been in my collection for 30 years abouts.

Did you read my post? Clearly I took the AI and wiki with a grain of salt.
Come on, I didn't say I agreed with it, and threw in a pretty clear caveat..." I'm not saying yours isn't USA 1995 ....just saying....."

No need to be offended......I got what I was after with that post that the search engine didn't give me...
Maybe I'm a dumbazz but I didn't deserve being called out on it here.....

Where is any of this did I call you out for being a dumbass or said I was offended? I posted one statement saying quoting AI isn't a good idea.

I'm not exactly sure but I think after Grover sold to IMC, Charvels were still made in Japan in the early 90s..Toothpaste logos etc. The Jackson line was still profitable so the custom shop US/production line still put out Soloists, RR, King Vs, DK1s etc. My guess is that in 94-96, USA shop managers decided to do a Charvel run, with the SD1-4s. The Japanese line did the same with their versions MIJ. That would explain the closer in similarity to Jacksons with 24 frets, recessed Floyds, etc vs a traditional Charvel USA with top mount Floyds, 22 frets etc. Easier to do a more Jackson-like Charvel reissue since they're already doing 24 frets etc. Just my guess anyway.

I like the old toothpaste logo Charvels. I wish they would do some guitars with the Jackson headstock and style logo. The strat headstock always rubs me the wrong way on Charvels.. That being said I want one of those relic San Dimas.

Plastidip refin I did on this one. Peeled it off when I sold it :D

Well technically you didn't but pointing out the obvious kind of implies that.... and I stand corrected on offending you,
it seemed a retaliatory response. My bad for assuming. I know AI and wiki are unreliable......I posted the cut and paste to show it really did state that....
Maybe I didn't approach the fact finding mission the best way.....

Oh very interesting that the Jackson line still had US production going into the 90s.. To my knowledge Wayne's Charvel company did mods, built and sold parts, not completed guitars. Though he may have done some. (Correct me if I'm wrong I'm not asserting this as fact) Guitar production started with Grover after he bought the company. Jackson and Charvel were the same company at least till 96 I presume under the Japanese ownership......( I welcome anyone to correct or help piece the story together. I just looked it up and Jackson/Charvel are both Fender owned ..

I saw a video on You Tube recently where Grover in an interview stated he regretted selling the company. He wanted the legacy to be about high quality guitars only. The company became known in large part for budget guitars... Which for a long time meant some really good quality used guitars flew under the radar at bargain basement prices. My 375 was a pretty good guitar...
