I have a close friend who was mowed down by a drunk illegal while he and his wife were on his Harley. Both suffered severe injury and life long trauma.
No consequences for the illegal besides a ride back home.
These stupid fucking libs don't give a shit until it effects them. As long as it wasn't their family that died on the highway that day.
sorry to hear about your friends; I think about it whenever I ride my motorcycles; and nearly every ride I have what I call a "near incident" - getting cut off, approaching me fast when I'm stopped at a light, swerving into my lane (big one for all the texting-and-driving people), etc.
These days, I ride offensively; I assume everyone else on the road, including dogs and even squirrels, is out to kill me, so I ride to get away from all of them to create space around me, to increase my margin of safety and time to react. sucks, and makes it more difficult to enjoy the ride.
edit: on top of all the modern driving distractions, there are fewer motorcycles on the road, it's a pastime that is rapidly dying like guitar playing; most riders like most guitarists are over 40 years old. So most younger drivers are not accustomed to motorcycles on the road, and often misjudge the speed or distance of a bike, or just don't see us.
I don't go to rallies, group rides, bike events, etc., where large numbers of riders gather, but I watch a few videos about them. I quickly notice all the grey haired people that are in the majority. When I got my first career job after college, the first thing I did was buy a new Harley-Davidson. I call my 20s my decade of music, motorcycles and women. Back then I'd go to the bike social events, rides, events, bars, etc., and there were people of all ages, young, middle age, and old...now it's mostly middle age and older.
