How much would you spend on a guitar...

Here's a question for you guys: is there really that much difference to justify the price from say, my Levinson Blade R4 and a 4K custom guitar?

If I were going to spend 4K on a guitar, something like this might be it.

The most I have ever paid is 4500.00. and that was way out of my comfort zone. I took the plunge because I have a dealer who gives me huge discounts so both those guitars were almost 7k new. R9 and PRSHB2 but even then I was reluctant and ending selling both. I have had good luck with guitars in the 1500.00 range used and like to stay in that ballpark. but never say never..

If the $4500 one was that PRS well then I gotta say that was prob worth every penny. That guitar was completely ridiculous, one of the finest instruments I've ever seen or played, like holy shit that's unreal good. Your G10 Strat you had was killer too and you got it at a decent price.

I mean if I had the money, I would be swinging like crazy. Couple Carillions, a Tom Anderson, a Luxxtone, a Padalka, maybe even an Aristides to keep my good guitars out of road/gig abuse (not like I ever giged or will) 😂

I just have a hard time with "what else am I getting for 5k vs like $2500"

Most of the guitars of my heroes were pretty much beaters. So I don't need some fancy shit. Jus give me a good plank with some good hardware and good pickups, away we go.

That's an awfully nice guitar rig for someone who doesn't know much about guitar, or whatever you were saying to avoid posting neo soul clips 😆
I am fairly certain you have been in chug offs with me before, so my clips are no secret to you.

Also, if badass rigs equaled talent, this site would have some of the best guitarist around.

But to hold you over til i actually learn about guitar and how to play it, this is the latest song i was writing (and never finishing)

Holy dammit, you just created the next big thing here at Rig Talk....neo dark soul.

$2500 is pretty much 4k today thanks to Joe Biden.

If you are gonna spend a ton of time with an instrument there is no point in cheaping out.
Agreed. These days I spend way more time with other stuff. And I don’t cheap out. 😉

The most I've ever spent on a guitar was a little over $2200 I think after shipping/taxes/etc from Reverb for one of my Warriors. The next most was $1800'ish for my other Warrior. If I was making really really really good money, I think the most I could ever justify, before it became a point of diminishing returns for me, would be around $3500-4000, but it'd have to be one helluva nice guitar that had a good market for resale/trades in case I just didn't gel with it after a while.
Had a few early Warriors when they came out. Killer guitars!

I’m struggling with this question right now! I’m in the $3500 max price range. I think that’s the most I ever spent on a McNaught or PC-1. But I agree about cheaping out. I know some don’t like to gig with expensive guitars, but imo that’s what they are built for. Sure, I can get the job done with a cheaper guitar, but I’m not as inspired as playing with a beautiful guitar that just puts you in that “place”

actually, under $4K though I did pay over $7k for my Gittler Titanium

I don't know if it's the same for you

But around that price I still feel like it's a GUITAR, that I can play at gigs or use. Yes, an expensive guitar, but still just a guitar

When it gets higher than that it doesn't feel like an instrument anymore, it feels like it should be a vintage investment piece or something because it's too valuable to actually use as a real guitar anymore

This has over 30 gigs on it this year. It's in that range:

And, yes, I agree... I can't see spending more and playing it out...
