cant wait till i start youtubing and mislead people with my clickbait titles and fart-pushing faces in the thumbnail which will get me free gear and big $$$$, dudes are gonna hate the shit out of me as i LOL
He learned that from Glenn Fricker who did the same from the old Ultimate Metal/Andy Sneap forum.Kyle Bull just mines years of forum discussion by guys like us and then preaches it as his own thoughts and discoveries.
I actually caught him creating a video about a VERY specific topic I had brought up in a forum a few days prior that I know he's a member of. He even quoted my thoughts on the the topic and posed the question to his viewers and acted like he was the one who discovered the topic.
I don't watch his videos, mainly because I can't stand his overly sarcastic self deprecating zoomer type attitude and delivery.
Yeah, if it was ONLY that. That guy's video history has (had?) SO many 'serious' themed videos with titles such as, "Guys, we need to talk, this could be the END of my channel", or "My gear addiction is out of control, therefore I'm selling EVERYTHING!" followed soon by new videos along the lines of "Just bought 19 used cabs for $3K" or "Totally UNBIASED 17 high gain amp shootout + how to dial in the (spoiler alert) winning Mezzabarbra amp when it's controls are stuck from dried spooge"You can’t tell me you’re not looking to get triggered by something after writing that post.
I’m on my lunch break and spent 5 minutes skimming that pickup video, literally the only thing he’s saying (I have to assume you didn’t watch it) is “Sometimes high output pickups don’t work like you expect them to with high gain amps” and that’s it. He figured out how to stretch that into a 17 minute video. He never said he was never using them again or that anyone else couldn’t be using them, just that sometimes they over compress when being used with a high gain amp and might not deliver what you expect. Which is true. And I’d imagine the overwhelming majority of his viewers are people younger than him, with less experience.
And that makes him a dumbass for using them in another video? What part of your brain said “It’s logical to call him out over this”? I’m genuinely curious. “Hey Kyle, you said in one video that high output pickups MIGHT over-compress a high gain amp, so what the fuck were you doing using high output pickups with the IIC+ even though you never said anything about not using them again?? HUH?? ANSWER THAT BITCH!!!”
And I sure hope all you tossing that sell-out term around are doing what you love for a living and not a single bit of your job is unappealing, because if Kyle’s a sell-out for playing and talking about gear all day, what’s that make for those of us who don’t do something with music for a living? Personally, I sold out the day I stopped pursuing a career in music and got a job in the trades because I allowed money to get between myself and my dream job. Fortunately, I’m a fuck of a lot happier and own most of the gear I wanted because of that job, but I’d still prefer to actually play the gear for a living.
This is no different than the tan pants crew at TGP shitting on Rhett Shull whenever he makes a video, it equally screams of dudes in their 50’s/60’s who aren’t happy with the way life turned out, being jealous of someone younger than them who figured out how to earn a living doing what they love. That’s 2 youtubers I’ve subscribed to in the last 2 weeks just because they’ve triggered people over absolutely nothing. I tend to be more of a ‘high tides raises all ships’ type.
I got no issues with either. I think hanging out with Ben Eller would be cool though.

I have no issue with him personally, just opposite ends of the spectrum totally and music tasteWhat everyone's issue with Kyle ?
That is a lot. But it isn't about doing what you love for a living. You can’t tell me you’re not looking to get triggered by something after writing that post.

Pete Thorn and Leon Todd seem like they would be fun to hang out with. They seem to enjoy playing and we have similar tastes musically. I honestly wouldn't mind hanging out with Michael Nielsen either. I love a lot of that old rack stuff and he has a ton of it.
In general I find it extremely annoying when Youtubers complain about how hard it is sometimes. Ok, I do get that there are restrictions and monetisation issues etc, but you could always go and get a job a "regular" job, no-one's forcing you to do your channel. Not only that; directly after doing some contradictionary videos (first: 'y'all wrong for using high gain pickups' and literally the next video he does is 'I'm testing this IIC+ RI with 7 different guitars, 4 of which have very high output pickusp') and being called out on that on this forum, he proceeds with a bunch of videos basically whining about 'the hate towards Youtubers' and how hard it is to live the YT shill-life, even though he's constantly trying to act all cool and unphased here about him living rent-free in our heads.
It's either this or that, buddy. Not both.
So yeah, my pick's on Alan.
Funnily enough his schtick about 'celebrate mediocrity' reminds me of a story that almost got an ex-co-worker of mine in trouble years ago, when we were both working for a US-based company. We have a saying here, that basically says "Just behave/act normal, that's crazy enough already" (implying to not stick out your head above the mowing field, but also be an abiding, church-loving citizen that doesn't act out...), which my co-worker translated slightly different to our American bosses... He said "Just be mediocre, that's crazy enough".
As you can imagine, they took it up with our general manager, rather irritated and threatening to get him fired, because he apparently 'wasn't firing on all cylinders and 'excelling', blah blah, corporate awesomeness, yadda-yadda..." Oh the joys of culture clashes.![]()

Lol, I got butthurt over being called out.It is hard to speak for everyone.
I think most of us liked him. He seemed genuine and was pretty cool. Then he sold out hard and started making clickbait videos and saying things like, "my friends at Gibson"
It no longer seemed genuine. Then we called him out and he got kind of butthurt..it was disappointing.
That is a lot. But it isn't about doing what you love for a living.
It is about doing a job with integrity.
The sellout refers to the click bait titles and beta faces.

Revisionist history is great if. the person isn't here to refute it. Not that that really matters, beause some of these dudes live in their own world.
Same person I've always been. Haven't changed a bit. Always been thankful for what I get to do. Never taken money to deliver a video where I didn't believe in every word I've said. Never taken money to fluff a product, because that's not the style of my videos. Said no to tons of stuff that would have paid me well because I didn't like the terms or the product didn't make sense. If I like something, I'll let you know. If I don't like it, I'll tell you it's not for me, but here's who will probably dig it. I just don't believe that there is much inherently "bad" gear these days, and apparently some dudes perceive that as shilling.
Some people can't fathom the idea that youtubers aren't all bought and paid for by the companies who send them products. Some people are just angry and bitter no matter what. I completely understand the idea that someone couldn't possibly be impartial when a product is sent to them or they are paid, but I also fully believe there can be arguments made that someone who buys a piece of gear to review it could be more invested because it's something they were interested in enough to spend money so therefore they have personal stock in the situation. We see this all the time with people being in love with an amp or guitar at first, and after a few weeks they have a bunch of complaints and move it on. Both things can be true. It's a matter of perspective.
Also, when I say "my friends at so and so company" that's because I now have friends at those companies. I'm sorry if that seems disingenuous, ut I acvtually do form lasting relationships with a lot of people behind the scenes at these companies. Your example - Gibson - I have a good friend who works in their content department, and we talk often about more regular life shit than we do about gear. We talk about meeting up when we will be in the same areas just to catch up. I'd say that would be considered a friend in my book. I've long talked about forming relationships with people in the industry being my favorite part about this job. Maybe you missed it.
I'm a happy guy who enjoys gear. Talking about it, playing it, buying and selling it. There are some wonderful people on this forum and honestly, this was one of the last to fall. Unfortunately, the current nature of the internet is toxic and confrontational. I'm not on this forum any more becasue i'd rather focus my time on creative or productive endeavors.
Some people in here have a hate boner and love to just make shit up. I also think it's hilarious how OBSESSED with Youtubers this forum has become. Every time I loig in here just to see what's going on, there is at least one thread on the front page talking about Youtubers in a derogatory manner. Pretty funny to witness.
As for your comment, Smash - I seem to remember you being particular mad about my video where I talk about liking PAF pickups through high gain amps and explaining my reasons why. I had Sweetwater sponsor that video because I wanted to check out their Gibson PAF collab pickups, so I used them for the video and talked about them. That's called a product placement, ad that's how it worked. I straight up told them, if I didn't like the pickups, I'd send them back and use something else. I tried them, I liked them, so I used them. I didn't say they were the best ever. I didn't say you HAD to use them. I simply explained why I liked them for thsi purpose. The title was "You're Using the Wrong Pickups for Metal" or something along those lines. It's ment to be tongue in cheek, which 95% of my audience understood, but you seemed to take that line REALLY personally and continuously attacked me for it. Shit is silly.
So yeah, I didn't get butthurt and leave becasue you guys "called me out" I just got tired of all the weird, obessive toxicity over youtubers here and decided to spend my time elsewhere. As I've checked into this forum, I see not much has changed. Still some great folks, still some fuckin weirdos. If you're reading this worried I'm talking about you....what does that say?
Anyways, I'll have a booth set up at the Guitar Show in Cuyahoga Falls this Sunday. I'll be there hanging out, selling some gear, but mostly bullshitting and meeting up to chat with people, because believe it or not, I still like to talk about gear like a noraml gearhead does. Feel free to come say hi and hang out if you'll be there. Feel free to also come talk shit to my face, since nobody ever seems to do that when they meet the people they're constantly trying to ridicule online.
I get not digging the thumbnails etc but I don’t get a lot of grown men caring about this to this level. None of what these Youtubers do affects me in my personal life. So I couldn’t care how they do it, accept for when there’s too much talking and not enough sounds.I wonder how long, in RT days, it’ll take for this post to be referred to as “butthurt and unhinged”.
Please tell me, where did you obtain your PhD in missing the point entrenchmentism (yeah, I added the ism because I felt like it) since there’s no way anyone is that naturally gifted at it. Ok, I’ll Sunday school you for free just this once. YouTubers can’t make videos lamenting thé possibly that the world is ending (as far as their YT careers go) one minute to up their click count, then next week it’s business as usual as if last week’s existential dilemma never happened. That’s not integrity but it is what rubs people the wrong way, far more than mere silly faces do.OMG, why didn’t you all start with this? It’s so fucking egregious I take back everything I said! I can’t believe a youtuber would use dumb titles of their videos! Man, he must be the worst human alive and the content MUST be horrid if the titles are that bad. He’s going to ruin future guitar players with that shit, music won’t be good anymore and nothing is worth anything.
I admit, I’ve eye-rolled plenty at video titles and thumbnails. For a good year or two I refused to watch any video that had the youtuber’s mouth hanging open and every time I heard “the algorithm demands it” I questioned it considerably. Alas, they rarely had anything to do with the actual content of the videos and I was only restricting myself from seeing shit I was interested in. Turns out, I can watch the videos and never think about the titles or thumbnails ever again.
With all the metal, particularly 80’s metal, fans there are here, there’s no way in hell every song loved by people here has a great title, doesn’t change shit about the song itself and it’d be pretty dim to hate on shit just because it had a title you didn’t dig.
I know it’s irksome when they do that but I just ignore them, knowing it’s bullshit for clicks and keep moving. I’ve learned to really raise my douche tolerance threshold after years on the internet. You’ll never stop it.Please tell me, where did you obtain your PhD in missing the point entrenchmentism (yeah, I added the ism because I felt like it) since there’s no way anyone is that naturally gifted at it.
