Bought a Mayones Duvell... DHL Delivered a Nightmare

Looks like there are a number of class action lawsuits in progress against them for overcharging people...
Good! I remember having to wait a week extra for them to deliver 2 guitars I bought from Japan about 20 years ago. They kept driving by where I worked at the time, but they waited until Friday for some odd reason. They didn't call or anything. If stuff like that is happening, it's coming from the top down (Corporate to Drivers).

Weird as hell.

So Canadian Customs wouldn't let it out of Canada?
Not sure; seller provided the information they said was missing and copied me on the emails; also called UPS. We never found out why it was stuck in Canadian customs, what information was missing that hadn't been provided, etc., and returned to the seller twice before I gave up.

So strange. I guess Canada didn't want to let a quality US-made guitar go haha...

All that's needed is a Lacey Act form, HS/HTS numbers, and a proper declaration of value.

the Canadian shop owner and I gave up trying to figure out the issue. I blame Canada, just another reason we need to just annex the western provinces. :D

Sorry to hear about your troubles. Here's a real Duvel to help you get through

UPDATE

I finally received an invoice after going back and forth with them about incorrectly applying tariffs and predatory storage fees. I also filed a formal trade violation complaint with US Customs and Border Patrol for broker misconduct.

They dropped the storage fees and dropped the (illegal) stacked tariffs. Original amount they wanted was $869. New amount is $525. Of that, $382 is for import tariffs, which is correct and what I expected. The remaining $143 is additional DHL fees. And that's ridiculous, considering I had to pay $250 for shipping in the first place. But I expected to pay some fees for their broker handling clearance.

Merchandise Processing: $33
Duty Tax Processing: $17
Permits and Licenses: $28
Clearance Processing: $15
Under Bond / Guarantee: $50

They don't explain what any of this is for. But looking at their online calculator that spits out an estimated landing cost, most of this seems ok except the last $50 charge. But all in all, I'm finally in a place where I feel I'm not being screwed over.

It took 28 days, 15 phone calls, two trips to my local DHL hub, 33 emails, and a formal complaint to CBP.

I hate hearing about things like that happening to people. I warned people previously numerous times about what will happen with 3rd party shippers. Type "brokerage" into the search function here and it will be 3rd party shipper scam after scam from dozens of people here. There's millions more complaints just like that off the forum. These companies had decades practicing in other countries and now they're going to be doing the same things in the USA.

Your only defense is refusing to purchase from people who use 3rd party shippers. If you're in USA and you're thinking about buying from a Canadian for example then you have to specify Canada Post. No DHL, no Fedex, no UPS, etc. otherwise your goods will be held until the ransom is paid just like what happened here. If it's not an official countries postal service then all those third party shipping companies will take advantage of you.

And of the big three, DHL is the worst.

I hear lots of stories about UPS or FEDEX really blowing it. Horrible stories...Drives me nuts that Sweetwater uses FEDEX, and one out of 10 times something goes bad on those orders...But damn....EVERY DHL order is a nightmare for me. For a while the only Gyro that would fit a dirt jumper was made in canada....8 dollar brake cable, 60 dollar DHL fee, and they lose it or its ridiculously late every time.
