Thanks. I had about the best purchase experience I could ask for.
The guitar was in stock but not on the floor, so fresh out of the box.
The store wasn’t too busy.
They had a plarinum room and actually had an amp I own in there….also an 800 reissue which was perfect to demo this thing.
They had a high end Japanese version I could compare it to, to get an immediate sense of value. In terms of playability and sound there was almost no difference. Bigsby a little smoother on the JP version. Slight difference in pickup tone but felt more like where two guitars that are the same differ slightly in sound. No filter switch on the import but I never used those anyway. Master volume rolloff to go mean to clean was actually better on this import.
Got 15% off when I didn’t think it was eligible.
Noticed the D binding a little when tuning up and the tech there gave it a free tweak with a file before I left.

Well, I’m a terrible rockabilly player so I’ll be playing some Scotty Less.
But I can see using some some slap with this becoming de rigueur.

I loathe gold hardware, except on a sexy af White Falcon or Penguin where it becomes pure lust. Sweet score with the deal too.

Learn Bang-Bang, then play it through some subtle tape echo sounding slap back, a good tremolo, and deep lush spring reverb. The stupid grin it'll put on your face will come everytime.

It was pretty impulse really. I wanted to get another Gretsch after selling an import I had a little while ago. Saw a couple of guys demoing this one in a GC while I was away for Thanksgiving. Didn’t get to play it as the second guy bought it, but he did allow me to dive in and grab the neck so I could feel the shape. I thought it looked cool, it had a nice feeling neck, decent frets, actual Filtertrons and the price wasn’t crazy. Did a search and found my local GC had one in stock. Day after I got back I went and got it.
