    New Kerry King music.

Grew up learning “some” Slayer when I started playing 30 years ago. RiB, SoH are certified bangers. Seasons is great and Divine Intervention is quite solid and possibly slightly overlooked. I was kinda over them after that. But they still have their place in metal history. Jeff and Kerry are...

James Hetfield and his Marshall’s used on Black Album to restore lost frequencies

This, all of this. I remember watching the “Year and a half” DVD. The Sad But True tracking scene was great, but between the various cabs, mics, blankets and foam used all over, plus the multi tracking and baritone use…honestly it’s pretty impossible or even pointless to try and NAIL “that”...

Kirk Hammett: “Maybe the age of active pickups is over”

It definitely comes down to whatever your situation is and what you play, and then obviously what amp you’re playing through. Are you recording where other guitars and bass can fill in sonically or are you a solo/bedroom player? I think that helps dictate where your “alone in the room” tone...

BILL LAWRENCE USA L500XL VS WILDE USA L500XL Differences (Dimebag-Nuno humbucker)

Definitely, I feel it retains all the characteristics of the BL that are good and just fattens it up while rolling off a bit of the shrill high end. My pickup arrived the day of a gig and I rushed to have it swapped for the show. I hadn’t used the N4 yet so I’m glad I got it done.

BILL LAWRENCE USA L500XL VS WILDE USA L500XL Differences (Dimebag-Nuno humbucker)

I did this swap to my mahogany N4 a few weeks ago. The Wilde L500XL is much better IMO and I’m glad I made the switch. I have an older N4 that the previous owner swapped for the Wilde as well. Here’s another vid

“Tone is in the fingers” my ass. (RANT)

There’s one with John5 I think on the same Hello Kitty and Mike Portnoy on some Pokémon toy drum kit. They all crush it.

Mesa Boogie is Dead to Me Now

Pretty accurate. I bought my Dual Rec from Guitar Center back in 2003/4 and it was definitely in the $1299-1399 range I think. And it was brand new. Prices today? 🤮

“Tone is in the fingers” my ass. (RANT)

If I remember correctly that interview was Nuno Bettencourt and it was the tour during the Carnal Knowledge days. Eddie asked if Nuno wanted to try his rig and of course he said yes. Nuno said he sounded exactly like himself. Accurate? Sure it’s probably exactly what Nuno remembers. However I...

What is your #1 axe, and why?

Even though this is a recent pickup, it’s taken the top spot for me. A 2014 Washburn N4. The fit and finish are exceptional. The previous owner swapped the Bill Lawrence USA with a Bill & Becky Wilde so that was a plus. I installed a D-Tuna and it’s the smoothest functioning I have ever used on...

    New Gear vs Used Gear

Like a lot of guys have stated so far, I will buy either depending on what’s available for what I’m looking at. Amps I prefer new because you never know what their actual mileage is, unless you know the seller etc. I recently picked up a Washburn N4 from 2014, so still built in their actual...

Thanks @311splawndude As far as what it reminds YOU of, all good. That’s the point of music, for the listener to derive what they want out of the tunes. But hell, I’ll take a Linkin Park reference any day of the week lol. :)

For all our material, I do the bones at home with my 5150 LBX and SM57, bass, and programmed drums on my ancient Pro Tools LE and Mbox 1. Drums, bass, and rhythm guitars/acoustic (yes with a 57). Then we go to my buddy’s ACTUAL studio for vocals, mixing, and mastering. And this is the...

Wah pedal with the widest Wah sound/sweep? Bad Horsie?

@Leveraged Sellout As a few guys here have stated the Petrucci JP95 is pretty solid. Even though it takes a minute to get to all the adjustable parameters internally, the flexibility is pretty good. For me the entire “sweep” is actually musical and usable. I had the Wylde one years ago and while...
