Do you have one dude? I find it sounds nearly identical to my VH4 channel 2,3 and 4 but with a ton more voicings and features. Also the clean channel IMO of the VHX blows away the VH4.
With my VHX and VH4 I 99.9% of the time use a Horizon Devices Precision Drive. The ultimate pedal to me that tightens up bass. Works seamless and I can't use the amps without it as my jam room/cab set up is very very bass heavy. Also love the Centavo or Boss SD-1 with Yellow channel on.
Great update!
Which of the modes do you find has the least bass or boominess? (More mids/treble) In my amp room it is Boomy so I always slam an OD drive in front with no OD and tweak the VHX from there.
Have you folks tried an OD in the pre-loop? I always use a Centavo or Precision Drive with Shape 1 and wow does it tighten things up. I know it is sacrilege :) but I love OD's in front of all my amps.
Great review and opinions! Love my VHX and the honeymoon never ends. I am still tweaking and finding new patches to play with. Your post IMO is what the manual should provide. ;) Because at first the amp, IMO, is very overwhelming in terms of options. I was tweaking more than playing. lol
Maybe a dumb idea but here goes... how cool would it be if you added some overdrive's to the preloop if folks want to try some out.
I always boost my VHX with a Centavo or Precision Drive and it really produces great results. I find the Diezel's love those two pedals.
:)
I absolutely LOVE the front loaded Diezel with G-12's. I use it also with a Mesa traditional with V30's.
The G12 cab is the tightest and a bit in your face. The Mesa has a lot of low end I find. I think they are voiced for Mesa's in general but work well with Diezel's.
haha that is the ONE thing that drives me nuts about Diezel's (or at least all of mine over the years)... is that the volume knobs taper too fast. I feel like mine always go from too low too EAR SHATTERING so fast. I even sometimes use a Bugera PS-1 so I can crank it and it tames it nicely...
So I have a 2020 VH4 with 6L6's. I turned down the deep and presence to zero and noticed the huge volume drop but could not dial in my tone I like.
My tone set up for channel 3 is gain at noon, bass at 9 o'clock, mids at 3 o'clock, treble at 3 o'clock, deep at noon and presence at 2-3 o'clock...
I think my issue is my basement jam room. It is very boomy ever with tons of foam wedges etc. So with both the VH4 and VHX I need to tame the low end. I use a Diezel FR with G-12's and a Mesa traditional. Mesa is more oomf and Diezel FR cuts like glass
I love Euge. He got me into the SD-1. I use it sometimes but like the Centavo and precision drive more.
Agreed. Euge used channel 2 with a boost as a straight up chug rhythm channel in that video.
I used to be anti-boost for a while... like "why spend so much money on an amp that I need to...
Well if you want a clean boost.... the VH4 loves the Warm Audio Centavo. It is so clean I leave it on for my channel 1-4 at all times as a clean boost. I was shocked how it made my clean channel 1 of the VH4 pop but not dirty it. I really want a crystal clean channel and I am not a fan of the...
If you really want a chug that is almost like a Mesa Mark.... throw a Precision Drive or Centavo in front of it. I LOVE those pedals with both my VH4 and VHX. I lower the bass a lot as my room is boomy but I keep the deep at 12. I will try this trick next time I fire up my Vh4. Thanks!
